While Joe Q at the Cup of Joe panel said that Marvel will buy Stephanie Brown if DC insists on not using them. Though he was probably just trying to stir stuff.

As curious as I would be to see what Marvel would do with Steph, they don't have the best track record for young heroes; Anya Corazon, Rikki Barnes, Cassidy Lang, etc.

Yet, X-23's been treated pretty well (so far, every time a book she's been on that gets cancelled she just hops onto a new book; NXM, X-Force, her ongoing, Academy, etc), as has Miles Morales (even after many fans, which I'll admit including myself, were apprehensive towards at first), and recently Kate Bishop (main character on two teams plus is now one of the only two YA characters integrated into the Ultimate Universe), and they've given tons of publicity to Sam Alexander's Nova (despite being an annoying twerp in the TV show he came from). They've screwed up a bit, but they've been pretty kind to most of their younger characters.

Well, if you ignore Arena anyway.

As much as hate to think, I can totally see someone (Didio?) coming up with the idea of bringing Steph back during Forever Evil just so they can kill her off again. Just to cheese off the fans (I think a lot of DC's animus towards Steph and Cass is because readers wouldn't let it go and fall in line behind the "iconic" "one and only" Barbara Gordon Batgirl). I would actually prefer neither Steph or Cass appear as long as the current Editorial regime is in place because I DO think they would both be used as cannon fodder for a crossover (War Games Part Deux).

On the other hand, Snyder's remarks are probably the most accurate. Writers wanted to use them but "someone" says no to all appeals and there are no plans to use them - EVER.

Actually one fan site I was checking out was speculating that the original plan was to reveal the New-52 Joker's Daughter to be debuted in Forever Evil was actually Steph.

I doubt they'd be that stupid. Fans have been going (understandably) nuts over their lack of appearances, they'd probably (and again understandably) seriously freak out if they brought them back then killed them off. They've seen how people react to them not existing, if they really went out of their way to kill off the characters after bringing them back, it would be PR suicide.
Even people who don't read/care about Steph and Cass would probably find it in bad taste and likely complain, and I can't imagine Simone or Snyder, who're probably DC's most popular writers right now, being OK with something so spiteful happening to characters they like.

Honestly, the most likely to happen after they come back is either for them to float around in limbo making odd appearances here and there or get regulated to a C-list team book that never gets promoted but sells well enough for DC to keep it.

I don't get why she and Cass are persona non grata, anyway. I mean, they've both got non-Batgirl identities they can use if the NOT MUH BATGURL issue is the sticking point.

Although granted, Lady Shiva now being Cass' age...ish is a bit of an issue (why did they age her down, again?).

Honestly, the knowledge that Cass and Steph are out there, ready to be used whenever a writer wants to would sooth some of the hurt feelings over this, I think. It's kind of why I hate Arena, since it's taking characters out of the sandbox, and not exactly putting anything new in. (Although we know at least that X-23 is going to survive, since she's been mentioned as such in the X-men panel).

Whoa whoa whoa - let's not get TOO gun-ho here. I know that Gail at least has experience with writing feisty young teenage heroes (Misfit - though I've never read her, having jumped ship the second that Dixon left Birds of Prey), but does Morrison have any equivalent feats?

From what I've read of Morrison's Batman work, Steph isn't really a character that plays to his strengths.

I wouldn't mind the new dcu if they kept the bat fam in tact timelines and all (and when I say family I mean all of bruce's adopted/biological children) didn't care much for barbra or steph but hell lets throw em in too...It just feels like ultimate dc now

This continues to baffle me. There's a weirdly spiteful air about the refusal to use these characters. They have writers asking to write them and readers anxious to read them; what exactly is the problem? Perhaps it's the perception that most of the Cass/Steph agitators are female, and as everyone knows, girl money has cooties.
