This is SO adorable! 'Secret boy' and L'il Warrior Diana just makes me smile! :)
This comic introducing Bruce and Diana did better than the series, which was hampered by licensing, I suppose, though it was still irritating to have a Justice League and no Bat or Wonder Woman.
You know, I can get why people might like this take, and there's probably more than what I'm seeing here (I got the first few installments of Smallville and somehow I got behind REALLY fast), but I can't help but wonder: If the roles were reversed, and it was a little boy dragging a scared little girl and saying that she's his "secret girl," would that still be as adorable?
Man, if the very core conceit of Wonder Woman had the roles reversed, and there was an isolationist island utopia populated entirely by men who sent out an emissary to "Matriarch's World", that would already in itself be terrible.
Basically what I'm saying is that reversing gender roles is often a terrible thought experiment on account of the gender roles we have now exist due to a whole host of causes, and don't swap over that easily.
If said boy was from an all-male warrior society and had just met an individual of the opposite sex for the first time? I think so. These are children, after all. No sex drives yet, and the size and strength differences between sexes aren't as pronounced before puberty.
Not that the vaguely manga-esque art in those first panels isn't cute, but stylistically it's an odd choice for a book based on a live-action TV series.
Not sure how I feel about Diana deflecting the bullet back into the guy's throat, its just too violent for Wonder Woman. It reminds me of that god-awful pilot that had her do just that at one point.
But, the childhood sequence is pretty cute, and its always awesome to see Diana save people.
Does anyone else feel like we dodge a bullet with Diana NOT appearing in Smallville? I mean, after looking at Lupa's reviews of Charmed and that Wonder Woman pilot... the "strong lead female" characters in shows like that are... not that great in terms of morals, confronting issues, and dealing with things in general...
