'It’s an ongoing, monthly series for as long as we can keep it up. As for what it’s about … it asks a question that most superhero readers have probably asked about their favorite superhero: What happens when a superhero retires? And we’re not talking about a gold watch/retire-at-65 kind of situation. To me, superheroes are like professional athletes … they retire young. So the real question this series asks is, what happens when the power fantasy is over? What comes after that? And everyone in the cast has to deal with it, not just the lead character.'

- Joe Casey

So when Casey talks about this series, we're not supposed to mentally swap out "superheroes" for "Batman?"

That four panel shot of Cooke trying to sleep sums up the whole series.

Motto.
It's been very underwhelming so far.

Got it, Joe Casey's Sex is an underwhelming experience.

I'd go so far as to call it....inadequate.

Ah, okay.
So it's a monthly, and based on that quote he doesn't seem to actually have a plan. That explains why it is so plotless and devoid of any actual ideas.

I see what you did there.

So I'm supposed to feel sorry for a wealthy man who can't get any sleep because he's not beating people up anymore?

Who now actually has to work and finds out that OMG its so boring?

Can someone please tell me how I can slap the taste out of this guy's mouth?

"actually has to work"

Well, it's not like he was living a life of leisure up until now. Before this, he was presumably doing detective work, going on patrols, busting up supervillains, building Saint-mobiles, getting ribs kicked in, and just generally waging a one-man war on crime. I don't think painting him as spoiled washes, y'know?

I think it's more "has to work for a living like the rest of us" rather than "has to work in support of his self-indulgent career as a vigilante", the two aren't really comparable as work ethics.

Yes, that is what I meant, I do apologize for the misunderstanding.

But I don't think you can dismiss someone's work ethic just because it's in service of a calling instead of something they're forced to do. By that logic, you'd have to dismiss the work ethic of everyone in the real world who likes their job.

I like how Casey and the artist seem to think we're such neanderthals as readers that we wouldn't catch that the guy in the really conspicuous Fidel Castro-looking outfit is actually someone in a disguise, so we have to have a panel of the disguise.

I do think it's kind of funny that he's using his Fidel Castro disguise to go to a brothel.

Oh, certainly. I'm not saying the choice of disguise isn't funny, but the way Casey actively has to tell us it's a disguise is like Morrison in Chapter 5 of Batman RIP having a character scream 'NOW DO YOU GET IT?' at us once a character has been revealed to be evil.

I just realized I misread that panel. I didn't notice that the disguise seen is actually still on the mannequin head. I glanced at it and thought it showed a bunch of heads with obvious disguise props and one was missing (as it's now being used), and just assumed the reader had been shown these heads, including the Fidel Castro one in a somewhat subtle way in the background in a previous scene. I guess that, in accordance with the panels around it, would still have been spelling it out for the reader but it would have been more interesting.

But you get that from the first zoom in panel, you don't need to see the disguise props on their own... Yeah it's silly and redundant.

I didn't catch it.

It wasn't until I read your comment I ever even noticed a Fidel Castro disguise

So I imagine it's for people like me and probably necessary

For such a very wordy comic, I'd think the lettering could be clearer and easier to read.

Also, *yawn*

I agree with your opinion. But somehow I feel I should keep reading for some reason because of mere curiosity of what happens next.
