I have to admit, the first page is actually very clever - kids do pick up a lot from their parents that can warp their view of the world, so learning to equate flowers with emotional manipulation because of an abusive parent really does go a long way to explain Pamela's mentality.

It's a shame that they didn't use the rest of her story to flesh that out a little more, instead of the generic 'cheated through school, swears revenge on those who don't appreciate their genius' backstory.
