Damian and Colin... together again
Sep. 14th, 2013 09:53 pmA recent thread about how childhood trauma seemed to generate villains, but few heroes, reminded me of Colin Wilkes, the closest thing Damian Waybe might have admitted to having as a friend (rather than ally), Colin Wilkes...
Colin was an orphan kid, who still lived at St Aden's orphanage, with the ability (following an abduction by the Scarecrow and an experimental venom variant) to transform into a superstrong bruiser of a man who became an occasional superhero using the codename "Abuse" because he was determined to stop it...
It's Mother's Day in Gotham City and Colinhas just stopped Harley and Ivy raiding a florists (Ivy wants to release the countless bouquets intended for the mothers of Gotham City) when who should he meet outside...

Oh Damian, you little shit you.... :)
They decide to try to find out more about Colin's mother. Since Damian can go out as Robin, but Colin can hardly accompany him as Abuse, they have to come up with a new costume for Colin... I could reveal what it is, but I won't, you'll need to buy the comic to see it, but it IS a fun moment.
They check every hospital in the city (and take a brief detour to chase down and stop the Scarecrow, who they just happen across, Colin is a nice kid, but he does NOT like the Scarecrow for obvious reasons, though they do seem to adopt one of his crows along the way), but to no avail, there are no records of his birth or his mother anywhere that can be found...

The rest of the story has a surreal little scene with Talia and Bruce which is sort of like a Bizarro version of Batman Inc. and an end scene where one of the nuns gives Colin a present which she had found recently that is really rather lovely.
And from the Father's Day story (Which takes up the other half of the issue), which is also good fun, one scene of what happens when the boys decide to cook a meal for Alfred.

This (as you might imagine) leads to Alfred making an emergency call to Babs... who has problems of her own when she discovers that a double booking at the restaurant she's taking her Dad to means they have to share a table with another rather famous father and daughter... whose surname happens to be Al Ghul, but again, you'll need to read it for yourself to get that scene...
(Oh, and I love that Dick's apron is his New52 costume chest stripe)
