I like the normals all wearing armor/survival suits before going into a major spacebattles.

Also I would like the Skrulls for once to stop being the Marvel Universe's Redshirt and get killed by the billions when events starts up.

It was their turn, I think the Skrulls and Kree, and sometimes the Galadorians (when anyone remembers who they are) have some sort of rota going.

Do Xandarians as a race even exist any more?

No, it was repeatedly stated that Worldmind & the Nova Force were all that was left of them during the last Nova series with Richard Rider.

Yeah, but IIRC they were also wiped out at the start of the Ultron/Phalanx event thingie too.

They still physically existed then, though, just infected with the transmode-virus. Can't recall if they mentioned whether it was all Galador that was infected, or just the delegation in Kree space, either. Phalanx were keeping within their forcefield that was around it, yes? And I don't think Galador is that close to them.

So this is basically "Annihilation 2.0: This isn't Avengers 2 bait, honest?"

That and a dash of Secret Invasion, given the Avengers/New Avengers tie-in issues seem massively necessary as a compliment and backstory to the main event. I'm very much reminded of how Bendis used Mighty/New Avengers to basically fill out the entire backstory, from how the Skrull infiltrators worked and how Fury knew they existed, with this.

Well considering how Avengers 2 is meant to be an Ultron-centred plot...

They let Brood into their alliance? Might as well paint a bullseye on their backs and hand them a knife, it'd save time.

Annihilus is part of the alliance too... you know, the guy who almost destroyed the universe during the first annihilation wave...

I think the point is that the threat is so omnicidal that everybody needs to work together to survive.

Kl'rt is the name of the original Super-Skrull. And apparently he did, now that I googled the YA issue.

I couldn't help but smile at that panel of Smasher waving at her Avengers teammates from the Shi'ar section of the conclave.

I know it's been said before, but this is a REALLY underpowered team of Avengers to bring into a conflict like this. I don't think it would bother me so much if they were the ONLY Avengers, but it's kind of hard to ignore when you've got Monica Rambeau, most of the Illuminati, She-Hulk, half the Uncanny Avengers roster & Vision all currently actively operating as Avengers or at the very least closely affiliated with them.

I mean if you're going to take Falcon, Hawkeye, Shang-Chi, Black Widow & Jessica Drew into a space conflict at least explain why the heavy-hitters who should be there AREN'T there. Operation: Galactic Storm had a couple of weird roster choices but at least there was an in-story attempt to justify those choices...

Well, the Illuminati staying behind has a justification.

I can't remember what it is, but there is one.

It seems a bit odd not to have Quasar, Silver Surfer, Beta Ray Bill or some of the other cosmic characters involved in this.

Maybe they will appear later. I know the Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova will be having tie ins soon.

Surfer is involved, he's doing his own thing in his own "Infinity: Against the Tide Infinite" tie-in.

Thing like this are part of the reason Secret Invasion never worked for me. The Skrull have progressed so far above the one note bad guys that they were in that event. They're overly militaristic, yes, but still capable of acts of nobility and self-sacrifice.

The problem with SI was that a lot of the meat behind the event - explaining the how and the why of the Invasion, like why the Skrull were actually desperate enough to try something like infiltrating Earth and then launching a full-scale invasion due to the Empire being pretty much fucked - all that was explained in the build-up and then in the tie-in issues Bendis worked. But then with that in mind, Hickman is doing exactly the same thing here.
