This is from Justice League of America #7.4: Black Adam, written by Geoff Johns and Sterling Gates and illustrated by Edgar Salazar.

Later, Adrianna discovers that Ibac's men have discovered the Sons of Adam's location and runs to warn Amon.

The Sons of Adam ask Amon to translate an ancient scroll that will resurrect Black Adam.

As he starts performing the spell, Ibac's men and Adrianna arrive separately. Adrianna tries warning her brother.

Black Adam returns and kills the soldiers, while Amon dies from his injuries.

At Ibac's castle, his men try warning him about Black Adam's return when he arrives and kills them, declaring "Kahndaq no longer has a ruler. She has a protector once again--"

The power goes out and on a solder's ipad he sees the Secret Society's message stating that the world is theirs. He angrily destroys the tablet and says "This world belongs to no one."

While I'm disappointed that it looks like we won't be getting a new Black Marvel family (at least, with Osiris), I still enjoyed the issue.

..... ugh... why does DC try to push such... "odd" themes in September... I mean... first they had Harley BLOW UP children all over Gotham in an issue published on 9/11, and now they're trying to portray how "terrorists" think and feel... by being angry LARPers and hipsters...

I really DID has hope when Osiris came back, he would be torn between being with his sister but also his principals and be with Freddie as the new CM3....

Omon, for trying to bring in Adam to the fight the same way those nerd did with Solomon Grundy in Justice League Unlimited...

There's a whole world of difference between summoning a monster to depose the brutal dictator destroying your country and summoning one to get revenge on the jocks who keep giving you wedgies.

Everything is hipsters! When someone does a thing, and they have a feeling about that thing, or they don't, or they do but pretend it's a different one, or don't but pretend they do, that's hipsters! Hipsters everywhere!

Yep, like those hipsters in Egypt and Iran a few years back. Hipsters all.

I just like that the revolutionary is named Amon.

...which just made me imagine a DCnu version of Korra, and whoops, nope, backing away from that concept sharpish.

So I guess we are back to the pre-reboot version of Adam as the anti hero/villian protector of his home deal. I guess that means we are supposed to just forget all about that whole murdering a child for his powers and attempting to do it again thing.

Those two things are not really mutually exclusive, no?

Child Murder to me personally really puts someone firmly in the full on villain category. That's not to say that with work someone couldn't redeem Black Adam to the anti hero/villain level again. I just don't think we are going to see that work instead I think it's just right back to pre reboot characterization again which is just damn sloppy like most of the nu52 reboot but just because it's expected doesn't stop it from bugging me.

And Black Adam has always been firmly in the villain category, so it isn't that big of a departure.

As for the presentation here, since Johns has written all appearances of Black Adam in the NuDC, I doubt there is that big of a contradiction in the behavior. At least to me it seems that they are going for the same character, who was violently against tyrants and oppression of any kind and who sees all actions justified in seeking vengeance against them.

I'm perfectly happy to quietly forget any contradictions as DC tries to sneak back in things that worked before. Shh.

Hm, I actually like this. Fits with a lot of the current trouble in the region with the overthrowing of dictators for democratically elected leaders who are themselves overthrown by their armies and what have you.

Sons of Adam? Are we tying Black Adam into Narnia now?
