Elsewhere on this board for Wolverine and the X-Men #36, I commented how Agamotto will give his "eyes" to almost anyone.
Agamotto looking like the Caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland is kind of his "thing," at least when he's in his own dimension and not part of the Vishanti. (The "What's Luv" singer? No.)

It does not seem to say in this issue, the first of the 1970s Dr. Strange series, that the caterpillar is Agamotto.

Here's a link to some pages of Agamotto fighting Galactus. In it, we find out the First Law of the Vishanti is "With great power, there must also come great responsibility." Which makes me wonder if Ben Parker's past is more varied than we've been led to believe.

The caterpillar being Agamotto is something that was only later revealed, though I'm not sure whether it counts as a retcon, given the hints that come in the last panel -- "I'll keep my eyes on you", referring to the Eye and Orb.

Yay! Thank you!

I am amused to see that Agamotto isn't just presenting as a caterpillar, like Galactus or Death do as humanoids, but seems to actually turn himself into one (based on the fact that in the linked scans Galactussaw him as a caterpillar... either that or Agamotto can even fool Galactus's senses). I hope this means his pipe is likewise real, and he is truly smoking it up.

The Hooka is definitely real though exactly what it is varies with the stories. IN some it's a powerful mystical talisman in others it's basically his VCR That he uses to rewatch all the stuff he's seen since he's all seeing. Given his nature it's probably both of those things, a normal pipe and a whole lot more at the same time.

Infact in the Infinity war tie in what really made him loose it was when his fight with Galactus damaged some of the images he's stored in the hooka. It also had a great line about his not caring if Strange's universe was destroyed because he had it all on tape.

I'm just amazed this isn't a Steve Gerber script. It really feels like one.
