Fancomics: Power Creep, Lovers Arena, Illyana and Kitty, and Pym dad!

This was supposed to be a Halloween thing, but I was busy moving cross country.

Also, Kitty, I know things have been rough recently, but Illyana is totally the wrong person to complain to.

Thinking about doing a little more animation in these things. Maybe. We’ll see.





Alternate ending: Arcade was the one writing the fan fic. Avengers Arena was just a chance to create new pairings.

I don’t know, this is a weird one.

Boy, the art in this one is terrible. Just…terrible.




Someone once described Hank Pym as ”a mad scientist trying to be a superhero,” which is how I like to think of him. He means well, but he has a tendency to get pretty...let's call it, intense.

Hank needs more panel time with his kid, though. More time being the amazing Pym Dad.

*Hank Pym art criticism* Oooo, I see. Fake self-deprecation to get favor. Sneaky ;) But for realsy, the darkened contours in the close-up are nice.

I like how in the power creep one, Dani is smiling at Doug's panicking. "*tee hee* Not helping, Doug."

Also, points for using TvTropes around the net so our glorious extra-dimensional elder god can spread. Spread. SPREAD.

Actually, the one I wasn't happy with art-wise was the Doug one. The Hank Pym one came out pretty okay. Except for his weird arms. And some other things.


You can't escape TV Tropes. Even if you don't know about it, it will insert itself into your life. THERE IS NO ESCAPE.

Maybe it's because I use firefox which tends, I think, to display gifs faster, but the Magik one has a final image end that's too sudden and closer to subliminal to be effective.

And as you might imagine, I have to defend Doug a little here, his power was never just talking, his power was communication... all forms of communication; human, alien, machine and written or spoken.

The body language bit wasn't remotely a stretch (as long as it didn't let him beat people with superspeed or the like, which it didn't do), sadly he only got to use it a couple of times before he popped his clogs the first time.

An awareness of disruption in natural flows and patterns I can sort of see, but interpreting what it meant was getting a little weird.

And in terms of the all but cosmic awareness thing, yes that was going OTT IMHO, but in fairness he normally listened rather than spoke to it. ;)

Does it come off like I'm ragging on Doug? I'm honestly not trying to. I really like what writers are doing with him. It's cool when characters expand on their power sets.

Magik coming at me creeped me out. Admittedly, as an X-Men comic book reader I'm also enabling her sorry life. They should be grateful though. We're also the reason they exist. I'll just direct her to every terrible writer handling her.

Except Joss Whedon. He just writes too damn good.

A robot w/ his brain patterns did become one of the Marvel Universe's most dangerous supervillains. So we've already got a pretty good idea of what Hank would be like if he embraced his calling as an evil mad scientist.

I'm a linguist and I'm always grappling with cool languages with little success and I'm quite bummed that life is too short to learn all the interesting languages in this world. Guess I'm the only one here who's really envious of Doug's superpower.

Not at all! If I could have a superpower, it would be Doug's. I cannot imagine anything more interesting than true understanding of other languages - think of all the cultural and social information needed for that!

On the contrary, you are in good company. There's me for starters and assorted others, but Joss Whedon himself noted that if was able to pick a muant power he'd want Cypher's (And this was when Doug was still long-time-dead) because he's lousy at languages himself and it's something he's always wanted to be good ay.
