It was confirmed by both DC Comics and James Robinson that this is Thomas Wayne Batman.
That being said, considering there is a new writer on board, it is possible that Tom Taylor may decide to turn this Batman into someone else since it's up to him now. Admittedly this doesn't change the fact that he's fulfilling a role that should be going to Bruce's actual daughter.
If this where any book besides Earth 2 I would find this way more interesting. I was kind of hoping that this would be our Justice Society book, but 18 issues in and still no Justice Society formed. What a waste.
Can't really decide what I think about Lois!Tornado. I was always kind of fond of John!Tornado, but on the other hand Lois can be an awesome character (in the right hands). This is certainly a new take on her. Keeping an optimistically open mind.
Also, Lois!Tornado has a really awesome set of teeth. I'm unclear on why a robot needs a shiny white smile, but apparently General Lane saw this as a priority.
You know, as much as "this Batman is so extreme he'd kill the Joker who's imprisoned in a tube," may be what we're supposed to think, considering recent slaughter-Joker, I don't really have a problem. Like everyone else in the room said, he's a monster.
Why would you even keep Joker in a tube in the first place? He's not rational enough to use him in Suicide Squad, he's not powerful enough that you can just drop him behind Parademon lines, and trying to use him for anything is just guaranteed to backfire.
Well, at least this gets rid of the 'Should Batman kill Joker' debate. This Dark Knight gets things done.
I wish they'd spent more time developing the JSA, but so far this series has shown consistent potential. I just hope it doesn't become a continuation of Injustice: Gods Among Us.
Also, I bet this Batman is either Jay Todd or Tim Drake, although I'm still holding out for an Alfred Pennyworth.
So Supes and Bats are evil now on Earth 2? Guessing that is Darkseid's doing? Of course Batman through sheer will is fighting the influence. Perhaps his will wasn't strong enough to fight the urge to kill the Joker though? I mean c'mon he struggles WITHOUT outside influence when it comes to killing him. Makes sense that he couldn't resist anymore.
So is this Jimmy Olsen some sort of metahuman superspeed data processor, or just an ordinary kid with an internet addiction they put in stasis for... some reason or other?
Countdown to Joker 2.0 starts at zero point some attoseconds. Followed by demon Joker, clone Joker, Frankenster, cyborg zombie Joker and Ghost of the Jokers Past.
I might be tempted to like Earth 2, if it were really about the Justice Society.
But instead, it's an excuse to play up the boring first arc of John's Justice League, and even the biggest Earth 2 characters like Jay are taking a back seat to alternate versions of Superman and Batman, and their supporting cast.
Kind of annoyed at the turn the series have taken as of lately. I really liked it back when it essentially did what the Nu52 didn't dare, rebooted the universe all the way back without compromise, got rid of the trinity and focused on the JSA. I do appreciate the creativity of this new Red Tornado origin though so the book hasn't actually lost me yet.
I wasn't that fond of Robinson's choices, TBH, but Taylor's (if these are indeed his) are so much worse, in that they seem entirely focused on the Super and Bat supporting characters, ignoring a wealth of potential not available on Earth 1.
You know I really wanted to like Earth 2 it had some issues but I felt it had a lot of potential and seemed to be finding itself IMO around the end of the Dr. Fate arc and now it has jumped headlong into being just another Evil Superman book.
I mean the Lois as the Red Tornado idea is neat but other than that I really dislike the way this book is going.
I mean I really wish I understood why DC currently seems to have such a fetish for out of control evil Superman here lately.
