Honestly, I enjoyed it too. It wasn't necessarily a good movie, but it was entertaining and if I'm being entertained, then in my opinion the movie is doing it's job.
To me the most likable bits of the movie where when he was Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern instead of Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan Green lantern. The parts where it looked like the writers forget it was a Hal Jordan movie and just went with generic Green lantern. It was when the actor tried to capture what personality Hal has that things fell apart.
Personally I hope that when they reintroduce Green Lantern into the current DC Cinematic Universe (the one containing Man of Steel and Superman/Batman... which despite being called that also features the Flash and Wonder Woman, but I digress) they bring in Idris Elba to play John Stewart instead of rehashing Hal.
'Cause Elba is aware that people are campaigning for him to get the role, and I think that he'd actually be really, REALLY good at it. And they can also really do with having a headlining POC superhero, which even the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn't really done, even if they are having Falcon in the next Captain America movie.
Elba as John Stewart would be awesome and I wholeheartedly support it.
However, since I doubt WB/DC would be that forward thinking and I'll be disappointed in anyone but John. IN the likely event that they go with another lantern any of the other ones even the alien lanterns both serious and comic relief like G'nort would be better than another Hal movie. Hal is just too bloody boring IMO unless you put him with a great supporting cast like the recent animated series did he just falls flat.
When I was a kid I used to read those old DC future stories and I always thought "The Green Lantern Corps being despised is the dumbest thing ever, there is no way that could ever happen!"
Ah to be young and naive again. That said this story does look fun.
Flash looks like Wally, talks like Wally, yet is called Barry. Since Giffen has teased we're being lied to these first few issues, I'm still expecting this to be Wally's return.
And if not... Meh, I'll use a correction mouse & replace every instance of Barry with Wally.
Yea, can't they at least remember to follow through with their token attempts of diversity? Or is 'we put him on the one team, that's enough,' really all they feel they need to do?
Looks like most of his IQ points were attached to his "Clark Kent" side... so now not only does he not have the Kents' upbringing, he also apparently is an idiot. Go, Supes.
Well, look at the Man of Steel Superman - raised by the Kents and yet still a conceited idiot who gives up on the code against killing at the drop of a hat.
I had such high hopes for this so I read the issue as soon as possible man it was disappointing.
Everything about it was disappointing and would it kill the artist to draw Not Bruce and Not Clark a bit more differently. Hell put a shirt on one of them if you insist on them looking so close to each other. If it wasn't for the spit curl that showed up around the time they were unmasked I wouldn't be able to tell them apart.
1. What the hell is wrong with Wonder Woman's mouth? Obviously this take on her is a very aggressive, angry individual -- I could roll with that, but the sneering expression they've given her doesn't convey it. Especially in pages not posted here, the art makes her look like some kind of caricature.
2. Yo, that's not Barry. That's Wally. What's the deal?
3. I find the Wonder Twins deeply unappealing.
4. But I'll probably give it another chance.
5. And by the way, which Green Lantern do we think that is?
I figure there's two possibilities about the Flash.
A) That's Wally West, and this is a hint that there's a twist coming.
B) The writers wrote Wally, the artist drew Wally, and then editorial intervened and declared they make him Barry. Remember when Stephanie Brown was supposed to be in Smallville Season 11?
I wrote on the other thread I think GL is a clone of pre-brain damaged Guy Gardner. He's calm and rational and a little bit cocky which is pre Moe-guy. He also has the original hairstyle from before the bowl cut and the original hair colour. If these are clones of people close to the original five but not actually them, like this being Wally and not Barry, that would make a lot of sense.
The cave Wonder Woman said, and the two brawling supers stopped, in surprise.
"Uh, wha...."
*THUD* Her club came down, sending a quake through the ground.
"Talk peace, make friends! I give food, you be peace?" Wonder Woman threw down a goat's leg near them.
The two supers very nervously eyes the large club Diana wields, and the piece of raw meat, and weighing their options, smiles and put their arms over each others shoulders.
"We'll be friends! We love peace! See, we share food!" the first brawler says, and picks up the goat leg, taking a bite out of it.
"Yes, we'll support peace from today forward! Together, as friends! Yum, love this meat!" the other says, as he takes a bite out of it as well.
Diana leans forward at them, suspicious looking, and gives them a sniff. Finally, she nods, satisfied.
"Wonder Woman good diplomat!" she says, and flies away.
I will be honest, I absolutely loved what I saw here. I especially found Superman and Batman interesting, as this is a relatively new way to examine how important the psychological backgrounds are to the characters. Superman is like a frat guy who suddenly realized he has the powers of a god and Batman is potential embodied, but doesn't have that frightening determination driving him. To me, this has potential and it made me laugh out loud many times. Especially that last image.
The Flash is kind of weird, though, as that is clearly Wally. The behavior is Wally and the design is Wally, yet they insist it's Barry.
