We learn about Erin McKillen history, the latest person responsible for scarring Harvey Dent in the past and how it lead up to her doing it for revenge.











After Harvey put Erin and Shannon away, and after two failed appeals, the McKillen sisters come up with a pretty morbid plan on how to escape prison. But the catch is, only one of them gets out.

So they draw straws, and Shannon "wins." She tells her sister that she loves her, then proceeds to hang herself in her cell. Erin calls over the guard who was seemingly aware of the plan, as it seemed that for her cooperation.

It was promised that her son would get a life saving operation, presumably from an organ donation. With that, the guard calls over the medical staff, and the plan goes into action from there. For legal reasons, Erin needs to confirm her sisters body, but when the doctor leaves Erin and the guard alone, some body switching takes place, and Shannon's body is placed in Erin's cell, as Erin is taken out of the building by some medics who believe they're handling a corpse.

*sigh* Two-Face used to be my favorite Bat villian. Why make Dent a bastard? That ruins a core peice of the character.

Sad to say - I don't think the people who wrote Two-Face as anything OTHER than a complete bastard were anything but a minority. Look up Two-Face historian and former S_Der John "about_faces" Hefner's posts on the matter - out of all the Two-Face stories he's reviewed, there's a rather depressing imbalance toward depicting Harvey Dent as a total monster.

There's been times when he's been on the side of good, or at least temporarily so (heck, OYL, he was helping defend Gotham! No Man's Land being another good one). 'Harvey' being less bad is not all that rare a thing IMO.... though, it is common for Bat books to press the villains into being less nuanced in favor of being more evil recently.

Except when you write him as a total monster from the start it takes away the logic in all the times Bruce or Jim Gordon feel pity/sympathy/kindness for Harvey. There has to have been some core in the original Harvey that was like the two of them to work - hence his "Two-Faces".

Generally, yes.

In the animated version, he was a good guy who did have some buried anger problems that came out.

I haven't read these issues but just from the scans here I'm not seeing anything to indicate Harvey Dent was a bastard. He just seems really smugly self-righteous, but yeah, wasn't he always?

I haven't read the story other than this, so likewise working with what we have here but If, as he sort of admits in the interview scene, he twisted the law to ensure the sisters put away to stop him getting implicated in a serious crime, then that's a lot more of a bastard than we've ever seen him be before, at least before he becomes Two-Face.

So instead of the symboism of a crusading DA being destroyed by a criminal in a courtroom, and his mind snapping as a result (or even a hidden secondary personality being unleashed by a criminal he was pursuing) he's now a corrupt DA who was disfigured by a vindictive woman? Not really seeing that as an upgrade to the story myself...

And where's the coin making decision moments? Would he kill Keiron without tossing the coin? This just doesn't feel like Two-Face.

It's not like he hasn't done that before. Tomasi's "The Great Leap" had him shoot a henchman without tossing the coin (the infamous "Red Shirt" scene).

At least it isn't the Dixon/Beatty version, who uses the coin to decide which barrel of a shotgun he'll plug you with...

Also it is totally bizarre to me that we have scans of a woman who is part of a mob family, who broke out of jail and killed the DA's wife and poured acid on his face, who later seeks to take control of the mob in a power struggle, and yet when she says that the DA was corrupt everyone just takes her word for it.

I've mentioned how I didn't like that Bruce Wayne didn't have any friends growing up. The idea that the friends he DID have growing up went bad does NOT help matters.

Tommy Elliot: Serial killer Hush.
Zatanna Zatarra: Became a good guy, but mindwiped him when he objected to Dr. Light's personality being rewritten.
Erin and Shannon McKillon: Became criminals and both played a part in turning Harvey Dent into Two Face. (Erin having a more direct role as Shannon died.)

Okay, I'll bite: why don't you like the idea of Bruce not having childhood friends? Is it the sad core idea of Bruce being, you know, friendless, or something more in-depth? And is it 'any' or 'many'?

Not contesting anything, just genuinely curious! I haven't really paid much attention to that side of little Bruce, see, and I'd be interested to know more.
