SECRET AVENGERS #35: Black Widow gives Flash Thompson advice

In SECRET AVENGERS #35, Black Widow gives Venom (Flash Thompson) some advice about the superhero business. Whether or not Natasha thinks all newcomers to the superhero world need such advice is up in the air.

To be fair, they've had horrible things happen to them decently often.

Well, they've had their problems with kidnappings and whatnot too,
but they've still got better luck than most by the end of the day,
perhaps because they're both heroes I suppose.

She said no one she knows. If you look only at professional super heroes(i.e the Avengers) Cage is the only exceptions. I think Natasha see's the FF more as adventures and philanthropist than Superheroes.

IIRC, Onslaught was powerful enough to knock Juggernaut into orbit before he even got a hold of Franklin.

Franklin been kidnapped repeatedly, been trapped in Hell, has seen his father die and come back, his uncle die and come back, his other uncle die and come back, his entire family die and come back, his nanny die and be reanimated by a crazy family friend, he keeps on getting and losing godlike powers, and his creepy grandfather is always sneaking into his bedroom at night. Oh, and apparently he's not aging right - Hulkling, for example, should be younger than him.

Franklin's real superpower is being superhumanly well-adjusted.

Considering how he's the most powerful mutant in the world who everyone should be afraid of I always find it amusing how nice Franklin is. Even his smarter, younger sister is more of a brat.

At Marvel, superheroes don't have a lot of success with kids because of the tendency of editors to avoid letting time pass and characters grow up. Too few kids have been written in for there to be much of a pattern, and, statistically, any given kid is likely to killed off before he can make it through grade school.

Y'know who should have given Flash this advice?

FUCKING SPIDER-MAN.

But Marvel were too stupid to have Peter & Flash meet as Spidey & Venom before Inferior Spider-Man started.

They met pretty early on in Venom's series, actually. The suit still holds a grudge.

And that aside, besides the old hero worship, I don't think they'd contrast well. Spidey is an everyman character, whereas Venom's basic character is as a soldier. We'd just probably end up with the age old, pointless clash as to whether to kill or not.

I wonder what Spider-Man would think of Flash Thompson being a government agent/superhero. While some versions of Teen!Flash have him as borderline sociopathic (Ultimate, mostly), genuine Spider-history has Flash Thompson has him as a wiseass who mellowed out once he got to college.

DC couples don't have much luck either. Although I suspect a child of Superman and Wonder Woman could take care of him/her self. I always kinda of pictured their kid as Jack Jack from the Incredibles, capable of just about anything.

I just had the most amusing image of Power Girl as the baby sitter, or hell, Batman. Heh heh. So my question becomes what super hero would you most trust to baby sit your kids? Who would you trust the least?

I have a soft spot in my heart for that movie, as it was the first animated film I saw that really "got" superhero combat.

Hell, if you could get him, I'd expect Batman to be the most dedicated babysitter ever. So long as the kid doesn't have a pair of robin jammies on, that is. Not such a good track record with THOSE kids.

Although he's not a super hero, I think I'd go with Alfred, because Bats might need to take off at the last minute.

It's weird how the big two Superhero comics companies like to say, "Heroes are lonely, deluded, violent, unhappy, neurotic messes. But look how much fun the VILLAINS are having! Aren't they just the COOLEST?!"
