Man, seriously, that's your first instinct? To lash out and scream and ACTUALLY HIT your own flesh and blood, instead of table whatever you think you know about spider man because it's your own fucking child? Fuck that guy. Fuck him a LOT. If it weren't for the effect it would have on Miles, I'd totally be wishing he die during the event.
...abusive parents may, uh, hit some of my buttons.
yeah its really hard to feel sympathy for Mr. Morales. He's pretty much the poster boy for your average jerkass from the marvel universe. His priorities is messed up, I mean the whole world is ending and New Jersey got destroyed and that's all you can think about. Miles been trying to tell him that but I guess the crashing plane got his senses.
Considering he's spent the past year blaming Spider-Man for the deaths of his brother & wife, I'd say he's reacting like you'd expect him to upon finding out his son was the really the guy he had been blaming for those deaths.
As both May Parker (616 and Ultimate) and Jack Drake can attest.
In May's case, she doesn't understand why Peter didn't just tell her years ago, as if she couldn't handle it. (The shock would kill her, because that's a thing.)
Ultimate May was a blunt "Get out" because nearly everyone in the Ultimate-verse is a Jerkass.
Jack Drake focused his anger on Bruce Wayne. Were it belonged.
To be fair, Ultimate May had Peter living under her roof lying and being evasive with her, with a ton of stuff going on in such a short period which drove her to pretty harsh stress levels including bringing another kid with her own issues under their roof so soon after her husband had died, and she proved to be pretty kick-ass and great otherwise.
And Peter had also just admitted that he was indirectly responsible for Gwen's death & all of the crap with Norman Osborn due to his being Spider-Man; Gwen's dead body was found in the back yard by May & yet Gwen was standing right in front of her; and May had recently learnt her brother-in-law was still alive too.
She basically just says "Fuck this. The Jones family down the street don't have to deal with even half of this crap." so it's clearly more the stress of everything coming to a head rather May being a jerkass.
Oh, I didn't mind Ultimate May's thing. I don't think it was meant to show her as a jerkass, she just kind of had like a BSoD kind of moment. I mean, she took it all back pretty quickly, IIRC? When it'd had a bit to sink in.
There was also an element of her thinking that she was to blame somehow for all the misfortune her family had suffered (Ben dying, Gwen dying and then mysteriously coming back to life, a clone of Peter's dad showing up) and kind of lashed out at Peter due to realising that it was sort of his fault.
Though, after the resulting heartattack she did apologise, as did Peter for lying to her constantly for months.
Welp, seems like Mr. Morales was pretty much being one hundred percent accurate when he told Miles that he'd love him no matter what unless he turned out to be a superhuman.
Well, the father at least looks like he regrets hitting Miles, but.. Somehow, I have to give some sort of kudos to Bendis for actually following through with that; It'd have been far too easy to just dodge that issue and have Miles' father immediately regret what he'd said. But then Bendis actively made the tough choice with Aunt May in the previous series, too, so perhaps I shoudn't be too surprised.
actually. because the letter happens after both the hit, and the panels showing his reaction, i would have to agree and say that it was the reaction to hitting his son, that caused that look on his face. that is definately alook of regret. that second look (coming after the sound lettering) is a reaction to the sounds/helicopters/plane.
Father of the Year everyone! Clap. Clap. Clap. Fuckin clap. Seriously, Mr. Morales was aware that his brother was a scumbag for one, right? He had to have known that due to the life he lived, his brother would be his own undoing right? I'd perhaps be a little more sympathetic (only a little I at all) if he was just angry over the wife, but also being THAT angry over his scumbag brother, who tried to use and take advantage of his son (even if he doesn't know the full story yet), lost any chance of gaining sympathy of any kind from me. If he were a real person, I would tell him a blatant "fuck you asshole!" along with letting him know that in what could be the last moments of his life, he chose to be a selfish, petty prick who bordered on abusive in a single moment instead of trying to understand. That he is living proof why kids feel that they can't come to their parents to talk abd share what is going on with them. He has NO excuse. I did't expect him to take the news well, of course, but good god this just pisses me off.
Lets not forget that it seems that its all he can think about despite the world going to hell all around him. I guess he rather die than be saved by the man he blamed his brother and wife death who he just found out that its his son.
The thing about sh***ty human beings is they don't spring from the womb that way. They're made by other people. Usually the ones that raised them. I have a feeling Uncle Jerk-Face probably was enabled in his criminal ways his entire life. Instead of nipping bad behavior in the bud by making him own up to it and punishing him for it, his entire family including Brother Child-Beater made excuses and blamed other people for Uncle Bag-O-Dicks. I know this mentality well. The 'Enablers' will turn viciously on anyone who dares suggest that the 'Coddled One' is in anyway in the wrong or that they are wrong.
Yeah, migration seems like the most likely solution, though that would kind of ruin his whole average teen hero thing. It might be worth it though if we got to see Miles and Peter doing a Hawkeye-style name share/mentorship.
Man, how weird would it be if Miles is the reason why people finally pick up on the 616 OctoSpidey thing? Like, Peter told The Avengers or whoever about his adventure in Spider-Men, bout Otto no longers knows about it due to his removal of what was left of Peter in his head.
Going by the recently announced "All-New Ultimates"( With Miles,Bombshell,Kitty Pryde, Spider-Woman and Cloak & Dagger) and Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man, i doubt they are migrating.
I hope he leaves dear old dad behind for 616. He can find his alternate universe family or be adopted by the Parker family. Or anything. His father can stay behind and die/disappear for all I care.

add to that the world is coming to an end (probably due to supers)
then he finds out his son is spider-man.
i'm not saying i am okay with how he behaved, but i understand it.
let me reiterate... i am NOT okay with how he behaved.
(though, if this was aunt may hitting peter, would we react the same?)
also, it did seem like he regretted his actions immediately
