Well, in one issue they manage to raise my hopes to heights I could never have predicted, only to dash them down to depths of an even greater degree of inconceivability. Nova Prime, you suck.

In the IDW universe, there are two confirmed ways to kill a transformer. Destroy the brain module, or destroy the spark. Neither is as easy as it sounds, which is why characters so often thought dead can be brought back. Hell, Rung had his entire head blown up back in MTMTE #6, but his brain module was intact enough he recovered. That durability is one of the reasons the war's gone on so long.

Yea. Especially for the important bots, they spend a lot of effort repairing them.


Though I will note there is also simply bleeding them out of energon. A big wound left untreated will result in the spark running out of power and etc..

Destruction of the transformation cog is the third way mentioned. Rossum's Trinity, I believe, is the term coined for all three.

True. I forgot that one, probably because it's possible for a Transformer to survive with a damaged one, or with it gone. It's been mentioned that there's a religious group that has their cogs surgically removed, and First Aid got by for quite a while with a damaged one.

Although the T-cog thing is...inconsistently applied...about the only time it's shown to be true is the one guy who killed himself by repeatedly transforming and wearing his T-cog out.

(We've met the guy the Trinity was named after...I somewhat suspect he didn't determine the principle by simple observation.)

I think of the T-Cog more something they can survive without, however it does impact their health in general from the secondary features it might provide. However if anything more is removed/damaged the fact that the T-Cog is gone kills them.

Just like the human body, there is some organs we can still live if they are gone (eg spleen or 1 kidney- just one not 2), however it impacts our health in general in the long run.

Finally, between the last page here and the cover of #26, I keep thinking Nova Prime is Ultra Mammoth when I first see him.

Well there was the Nemesis Prime repaint of Big Convoy before the more recent Ultra Mammoth.

It wouldn't surprise me if Shockwave has something to assist Cyclonus leaving the dead Universe. But I don't see him willing giving it up unless there is a benefit to him or it is stolen.
