The Green Goblin's army is overtaking New York. Spider-Man finally finds him in the sewers.
The Goblin offers, in light of the current circumstances, that the two become partners with Otto being his second-in-command. Otto refuses, saying that he's Spider-Man now, and the Goblin attacks him.
"Avengers, this is Spider-Man! Spider-Island is under attack by an army of Goblins, I require assistance!" "You have reached the Life Model Decoy of Tony Stark, if you would like to leave a message..."
I'm honestly not going to be surprised if Slott lifts that from the Avengers movie in the next issue, since he already did whole "Red on the ledger" bit & took "Crazy Town Banana Pants" from Community earlier in the series.
Y'know, normally I hate when I'm reading comics and it's just issue after issue of the villain systematically destroying the hero until finally the hero pulls out a shitty last minute victory, but with Superior Spider-Man I just genuinely enjoy seeing his day get ruined, so this doesn't bother me.
Curious though, if Otto assumes that the Green Goblin here is Norman Osborn, in what way has he been at the whole villain thing for longer than him? Like, just googling the issue numbers, Doc Ock shows up in Spider-Man #3, Green Goblin in #14. Even without a compressed timeline that's less than a year.
So this is what it's like to be a really pedantic nerd. Feels.... Good?
Just seems kind of silly for Ock to brag that he's been in the game for a few more months than Osborn. Maybe that's deliberate though, Slott has written Ock as a pretty self-aggrandizing dude, so an empty attempt at bragging like that wouldn't be entirely out of character.
He could be taking into account the time Norman Osborn had faked his death and went to Europe after the death of Gwen Stacy I guess. Not sure how long that sabbatical is supposed to have lasted canonically.
Of all fuckin people, Osborn figures it out?.......BWAHAHAHAHAHA! About fuckin time someone did but damn is it funny that it's Osborn. Also Goblin-Spider War? Yes please. Loving the different Goblins on dispkay here. I'm actually looking forward to yhis.
He didn't figure it out so much as Carlie had a journal detailing her findings when investigating SpOck. Carlie ended up being captured, Goblin-gassed and brainwashed into joining the Goblins right after Green Goblin finds the journal.
What I find interesting is that they've never really interacted with one another in the 616 universe. The only real time prior was when Otto was brainwashed to kill him and lightning struck both of them.
You know, I saw someone else point something out. Peter only has 31 memories, right? Do they include school? Is he going to come back not knowing how to read? What about his social security number? You might be able to distill everything you need to know about being Spider-man down to those 31, but not the day-to-day life of Peter Parker.

Date: 2014-02-12 08:34 pm (UTC)I mean, Slott's made a point of teasing this Goblin's identity.

Date: 2014-02-13 12:34 am (UTC)Although amusingly, Peter's been at 'it' longer than either of them, despite Ock's youthful appearance crack.

I'm probably overthinking this whole thing.
