Really? Dini Batman was capable of forming proper social attachments, and relaxing with his family. I've never got that from Snyder's Batman, especially after "Death of the Family".
He actively states how difficult it is for him to argue the case of keeping Batman/Bruce alive. Presumably that extends to not revealing his secret, too, suggesting that inside, he at least knows the work he, Gordon and Batman did was of some worth to Gotham.
I like that Two-Face knows that Bruce Wayne is Batman, especially since Dent is one of the few people who knows both Bruce and Batman, but why did the writer think it was a good idea to kill off one of Batman's most iconic villains? I mean, I know that I spent a bunch of time complaining about the Joker not being dead earlier this month, but the fact that the villain the Nu52 decided to actually kill (by suicide, no less) is also one of the few sympathetic villains that Batman has just seems to be reinforcing the whole 'grim-dark' vibe they seem to so desperately want. Then again, I'm probably just being an impossible-to-please fanboy, and I'm not buying this series anyway, so what I think doesn't exactly matter to DC.
I have to admit though, I can't wait to see how another writer inevitably brings Two-Face back to life within the next couple years. We all know it's going to happen, but shooting yourself in the head is kind of not something you can survive without massive brain damage. So whatever insane explanation they come up with, I know it's going to be mind-blowing.
On the one hand, I'm actually appreciative of a take on Harvey that isn't just Gotham's golden boy, and I somehow feel we learned more about Gilda in those couple of pages than we did at all in The Long Halloween, where she just ended up being a bait and switch, but.. That can't just be it for Harvey. I doubt DC would let Tomasi kill him off anyway, and I doubt that's actually what Tomasi has in mind, but.. If they actually had the stones to do it? I think I'd almost applaud it. But we can guarantee Harvey'll be back the second someone wants to use him.
It does conveniently remove him from play for Eternal, I suppose.
Heh. We all know that the New52 is all a really bad nightmare that Batman is having after exposure to one of Scarecrow's new poisons. He'll wake up screaming one of these Issues and realize that it's all okay. None of the horribleness ever happened.
This just seals it. I'm increasingly start to think the new "52" version of the DCU is not long for this world despite what Didio/Lee have been saying. It is too unnecessarily dark and grim and too many characters have been changed or outright damaged or dropped entirely. They probably didn't intend it but the way things have been getting WORSE in the DCnU I'm thinking they are already looking forward to another partial reboot courtesy of Pandora or another deus ex machina.
Isn't the next event some kind of time skip? They might be hoping a hop forward will allow them to change things without folks calling them on it since they can claim any differences in characterization are from the five year gap.
The next weekly series for the DCU as a whole is Future's End, which is five years ahead, but relegated to that series plus presumed tie-ins. The Batman family of titles jump ahead six months when Eternal starts, placing it in the wake of Forever Evil.

Date: 2014-02-20 12:53 pm (UTC)Two-Face is such a good villain, with such a simple concept. After decades of good stories why do so many writers struggle with writing him well?
