The second issue came out on Comixology this week, so this should no longer be the most recent issue. But it was still pretty hard to choose which parts of this to post.
The issue opens in a convenience store, Circle Q, where Kamala and Nakia are talking with their friend (and employee of the store) Bruno.

In walks Zoe Zimmer and Josh [last name unavailable]. Josh extends invitation to a party on the waterfront.

Back at home (presumably after school) Kamala's Avengers fan-fiction is interrupted as she's called to dinner.

Tempers flare, and Kamala goes / is sent to her room. She decides to sneak out to go to the party anyway.

The party does not go well, and Kamala stomps off to go home. However, the Terrigen mists spread over the city and Kamala blacks out, falling unconscious on the sidewalk. She wakes to see Captain Marvel reciting Amir Khusrow's "The Yellow Mustard is Blooming" in Urdu, while Captain America and Iron Man translate it to English. Kamala responds appropriately.

Around 6 2/3 pages of 20.

Date: 2014-03-23 12:02 am (UTC)I LOVED this book so much more than expected...I really wanted to support it anyway but part of me was scared it was gonna be a little PSA with the way Marvel's been hyping it. Kamala and her support cast are awesome, it's very much got an original Spider-Man feel to it with the cast...the writing is really witty and the art is lush. I am really looking forward to #2!
It's really good to see with this title and Mighty Avengers that Marvel are not just making a token effort at representing diversity but really producing quality books :)

Date: 2014-03-23 01:19 am (UTC)Oh, and if you guys want to get the issue, Marvel recently did a thing for SXSW where the bundled the number one issue for this, All-New X-Men, Nova and New Warriors in one digital issue "All New Marvel Now Teen Heroes," and if you use the promo code "TEEN," you can get the issue for free.

Date: 2014-03-23 02:49 am (UTC)A bit, but it's more to each character than being up to family, much less nationality. Kamala's brother is very religious, and Nakia's comment about her father would suggest that the rest of her family might be more secular than she is.
That's part of what I like so much, and tried to highlight with my choice of scans: the diversity of opinion, religiosity, and temperament among the Muslim characters.

Date: 2014-03-23 06:32 am (UTC)So it worked out okay, right? I wasn't sure if maybe the promo code was dead or not. Still, the actual price for it is 3.99, and for four books, that ain't bad.
