Gine had a gentle personality, and unlike many other Saiyans, she was not cut out for fighting. She used to be a member of Bardock's team. While she was a part of that team, Bardock routinely saved her from many dangers on the battlefield. This caused her to develop romantic feelings for him, and the two grew to have a special bond. It was a rare case for Saiyans, who normally do not develop male-female relationships except for breeding purposes.

As she was not cut out for fighting, Gine went on to work at the meat distribution center on Planet Vegeta.^[3] She is killed along with most of the other Saiyans when Frieza destroys Planet Vegeta




And Goku was a test-tube baby to boot... fun facts years after the series end, right? just liek Star Wars, right?

Well on the flip side its not going to get stronger either. I mean even the humans had some room for improvement potentially, but 18 is pretty much frozen as she is.

Not like it matters by the Buu saga, when basically its only the Saiyans who are doing the fighting and even Piccolo has been reduced to Gotenks straight man.

Do you have a source for the Tien/alien thing? Because I can't find it. http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Tien_Shinhan states that he's a human.

I always wonder, at their peak who was strongest, Tien or Krillin. Tien gets more showboat moments, but Krillin gets into the action a lot more.

Yeah, Tien is a human who just happens to have three eyes, just like Chaotsu is a human who happens to be a short mime (And also an emperor apparently).

Its actually kind of frustrating: Tien and Chaotsu are two of the most visually interesting characters in the series, and by the time DBZ comes around they're basically cannon fodder. I think the last time Tien ever had anything significant to do with the plot was when he stunlocked Cell to keep him from absorbing 18.

Tien is actually the last useful human standing in the Buu saga, he saves Gohan for a brief moment.

Well, aside from this one, we also have Vegeta's little brother Tarble, from the 2008 reunion special. Who was also a total wimp and was banished from Vegeta because of it, and ended up marrying a Pillsbury doughboy alien from the planet he was sent to.

So there is a precedent for there being Saiyan's who can't really fight, its just... wow this is disappointing.

I think it was implied that Saiyans pre program their children to be violent monsters at birth while they are being shipped to whatever planet they are killing.

As for Trunks, he is only a half saiyan, and he was raised among humans.

Then again, Gohan is also half saiyan, and he has a pretty famous temper he can use to wreck everyone's shit at a moments notice.

I remember when Dragonball was shown on cartoon network Toonami. Fans would passionately debate and argue that Fasha in the Bardock movie special was Goku mother in anime forums.

So I wonder what Goku parents are talking about while they are next to his test tube?

Normally I just write off extra DB material as non-canon (that's what I did with GT), but it looks like this manga was actually written and drawn by Akira Toriyama himself, so I guess it's definitely canon no matter how much I dislike it :/

So, Toriyama took his Superman analogue and made him specifically an 80s/90s Superman analogue.

It was always my official head-canon that Goku's mom was that lady in the Bardock movie special (Fasha or something along those lines was it?),
I... prefer to keep to that head-canon I feel.
At least Tarble wasn't exactly a fighter either, but still!

...yeah, like others have said ,this is quite a let down. I've heard Toriyama doesn't give a fuck about Dragon Ball but if this is the big reveal, he really shouldn't even bother.

Maybe the point is that people wouldn't be happy either way so he made it intentionally as disapointing as possible?

I wonder why he didn't make her more like Goku. Big eater, kind of dumbass (I know Goku got hit on the head when he was small but still), maybe even a bigger girl? That could make for a fun character.
