Has a slip up been made about future plans?



According to Bleeding Cool (Which has been both right and wrong in the past)

A Bleeding Cool reader with print subscriptions to DC Comics rang up to ask what would happen to his paid subscriptions to Batman: The Dark Knight, Nightwing, and Teen Titans, now that those comics were coming to a close.

He was told that Batman: The Dark Knight would transfer to Batman And Robin. No problem there.

That has been suggested that it might indicate the appointment of a new Robin, but I doubt that, it's just the generic title for what is currently "Batman and..."

He was also told that his Teen Titans subscription would transfer to New Teen Titans. Which, well we thought there was a new Teen Titans title coming, but not that it was called New Teen Titans. Well, we know now.

Makes sense, and hopefully it might be more interesting than the last one (Hey, it worked as a title for Wolfman and Perez in the 80's!)

And as for his Nightwing subscription? That would transfer to a title called Grayson.

Which asks as many questions as it answers…

Indeed it does. Might they be exploring Dick continuing as a hero without a secret ID, which might be an interesting new spin. Or Dick having to NOT be a hero... but I suspect the comic book potential of Dick Grayson getting a job as a CPA would be about as exciting as Mr Incredible's office career.

The fact it's a single reader who happened to call Subscriptions means it should, I feel, be treated with an entire handful of salt, but...

And a bit of ominous foreshadowing from Batgirl #30 preview (the issue written by Marguerite Bennett rather than Gail Simone... perhaps caused by the delay in Forever Evil #7 coming out requiring a story element to be delayed, just as the final issue of Nightwing has been delayed too)

Hmm it's the past tense, but it's phrased rather vaguely, and doesn't actually state outright he's no longer in the land of the living.

Actually, I thought there was plenty of story telling potential in Mr. Incredibles office career. He could be tempted by an office romance. They could make him an adjuster, going out into the field and fighting crimes incognito. He could hang out by the copy machine and make dumb jokes about people's names...

Kind of. None of that happened while he was working at the insurance company, however. There he was simply a useless drone.

Not really. He *does* subvert the system by telling the old lady where to go to get a claim put through, which in turn leads to him getting fired.

I'd heard another rumour about Dick being seen as public enemy number one for something he did during Forever Evil and forming a new team of Outsiders operating out of sight of heroes and villains alike, but since he seems not to have actually done anything in Forever Evil except be a hostage (Which in principle I have no problem with, but it's been so long and so DULL) I suspect that one ain't happening.

Has Dick even met Harper Row?

Yeah, but that was more black ops nasty stuff (and was a lousy direction for Dick to apparently embrace so eagerly (what with it apparently originally going to be Jason in the NW ID)) I think this one just meant more standard superhero-y stuff... I dunno, it was a vague rumour more than a definitive plan

There was even the scene in FE where Owlman asked Dick to join him in his plan to... something non-specific which was against the apparent wishes of the Crime Syndicate, and nothing has come of that because the Syndicate over-ruled him and put Dick in the Murder Machine anyway.

For a core story of the central mini for the whole palaver it's been incredibly badly paced.... how long a time period is Forever Evil supposed to be happening in because every other title other than HLA seems to be finished with it with no impact, and the last part of the miniseries won't be out until May.

I've followed all of interviews and creators' twitters but EVEN they hate what they are doing with the character. I think I'm going to cry.

I used to read Bleeding Cool regularly, and was a fan of Rich Johnston's previous columns, so I'll be charitable and say that I'm extremely skeptical that some random subscriber called up DC's subscription department and got someone who "slipped up." (Who even calls these days instead of emailing for something that doesn't demand immediate attention, anyway?) Deliberate leak to generate buzz, more like.

Yeah, I'm not convinced, but I think they'd be leaking Dick's death, rather than his survival, to stir up a buzz.

Off topic but a) I find it hard to believe that any member of the Bat-family would get nightmares from horror movies given the stuff they see day to day in their normal lives, and b) I know Batgirl has had those bats on her knees for quite some time now and I should have gotten used to them but I really don't think I ever will...

Back to the news at hand, I'd really like a Titans book that works but I don't have a lot of faith in DC to deliver that right now...then again I would never credit Geoff Johns with ever being able to write a fairly decent Metal Men either so hope springs eternal I guess!

Well, no. As it stands at the end of FE#6, he's currently not breathing and has no heartbeat.

But any good emergency medical team would tell you, that's no guarantee he couldn't be revived.
