So I saw Winter Soldier and loved it. And I loved that Batroc was in it. Because Batroc is awesome :D

Sadly, while reading a bunch of reviews, I've noticed a disturbing trend: people think Batroc is a loser. Pretty much everybody expressed shock over the fact that Batroc in the movie was cool, because they are convinced that Batroc in the comics sucks.

Guy has no superpowers whatsoever, no weapons or tech or armour or fancy gadgets, and he can still put up a decent fight against the likes of Captain America, simply because he trained his butt off all his life to become a genuinely competent martial artist. How can people call him a loser? :(

SO. I've decided to post a couple of pages from Captain America #360!

And while I am at it, how could I possibly pass up the chance to post this panel?

Finally, I need help to find a certain issue. I've seen a few panels of a story with Batroc that looks hilarious, and I'd love to read the whole story, but I have no idea what issue it is.

Could you take a look at these panels and let me know if you recognize the issue?

Sadly, people (and by that, I mean Americans) buy into the "Cheese-eating surrender monkey" bullcrap so much, they refuse to accept it when French characters ARE badass.

Thus forgetting that the Swashbuckling genre was pretty much INVENTED in France. And Batroc is, for all intents and purposes, a Swashbuckler, just without a sword.

Batroc the Leaper. He will kick your ass with style and panache!

Yeah, Batroc is so badass his sound effects have French prefixes.

I mean look at him here, he walks right up to Porcupine, and slaps him in the face with a glove like he don't give a FUCK. Because he's Batroc the motherfucking leaper and that's how he ROLLS son.

Also? Porcupine? Seriously guy, you need all the help you can get. Calling you a C list villain would be disparaging to C list villains. One on one against Captain America? You are gonna get DESTROYED.

Yeah, also dissing the guy who puts up a fight against Captain America on a regular basis? Not going to end well, regardless of nationality.

Come to think of it, has Batroc ever fought Nightcrawler? That would be the ultimate swashbuckler throw-down.

My favourite Batroc moment was his fight with Tarantula in a Punisher story, where they go all out and are portrayed as genuinely skilled badass martial artists.

My favorite moment was when he teamed up with Mr. Hyde, realized that Mr. Hyde was a crazy bastard who was gonna kill a lot of people, and started covertly helping Cap take him down.

Captain America 251 and 252, first series (The one that started in the 60's)

That entire run of the cap comics is available on Marvel's unlimited digital (Along with a bunch of other classic Marvel comics, so I recommend it highly).

As I said before, it not only shows Batroc as Captain America's physical equal, but also an honorable rogue who turns on Hyde the instant he realizes what a piece of human refuse the man truly is.

And it occurs to me, Batroc would make an excellent edition to the Flash Rogues. Seriously Marvel and DC, next time you two do a crossover make this happen. I would love to see Batroc and his brigade (Which, as I just saw, includes Porcupine as a member as well, so you've actually worked with Batroc before Porcupine! What the shit?) Teaming up against the Flash and Cap and totally broing it up.

The Punisher storyline is Punisher 64-70. I'm not sure which one has the Batroc vs. Tarantula fight, but Tarantula shows up starting in issue 67, looks like.

Batroc wasn't in The Winter Soldier! I don't care what they called that impostor, Batroc has a mustache and a beard, dagnammit!

I'm with skemomo: no cheesy french accent, no facial hair, no Batroc. The only nod to Batroc in that character was his maroon and yellow jacket which you could barely see.

Being cheesy is part of being Batroc.

Yeah, but that's kind of a grandfather clause situation, you can't have the Monty Python Frenchman accent in a movie in 2013 without causing a minor shitstorm.

That, and it'd kind of go against the tone of the film somewhat.

Is it okay to spoil the big twist of Iron Man 3 yet? Has anyone here not seen it yet? I don't wanna be that guy.

I was wondering about GSP's portrayal of Batroc. Did he speak French with a Quebecois accent? Not being a French speaker myself, I can't tell, but I can imagine it would probably be as grating as Kevin Costner's American accent in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

I've seen several French-speakers say that his accent is very obviously Quebecois.

I don't know which issue in particular, but I believe that these are from a all-ages, Marvel Adventures: Captain America comic book. I hope that this helps to narrow your search down.

I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised with a) how kickass and b) how hot Batroc was in the movie. I really like him as a character but there is definitely a propensity a lot of writers have for using him solely for comedy relief.

Not hard for Batroc's actor to look that hot when he looks this good outside of the jacket!

The comic you seek is Marvel Universe: Avengers - Earth's Mightiest Heroes #5. Batroc features in the issue's second story, with art by Todd Nauck and story by (wait for it) Howard Chaykin. Yes, the Howard Chaykin. The story is one of my daughter's favourites and she was fortunate enough to meet Howard at a convention a year or two ago and have him sign it for her.

Ah, so its the animated universe, so that's why Porcupine and Batroc don't know one another. Different continuity.

I probably would have recognized it if they had done a close up of Cap so I could see if it was the same style as the show.

I was actually disappointed with how watered down he was.

I would have like him to be more loquacious during his fight with cap and towards his men.

As for the movie, I liked that Cap spent a significant time just running around out of costume like a cheerier Jason Bourne.

I'm still trying to figure out if Batroc has ever fought Le Peregrine onscreen, so to speak. After all, they both use savate as their fighting style of choice.

(For those looking at me blankly, Le Peregrine is the national hero of France in Marvel's universe... he has a suit which allows him to fly, and hasn't made more than a handful of significant appearances since he first appeared during the original Contest of Champions.)

I like Batroc, he's had some wonderful character moments when people take him seriously, outrageous accent, awesome mustache, and all.

I wonder if Batroc ever fought those French heroes the Thing was hanging out with during Civil War.

Seriously, smartest thing Ben ever did. Smartest thing any hero ever did. He took one look at all that crap and was like "You know what? Ima sit this one out. I'll be in France fighting monsters, call me when things get less stupid."

Batroc's only a loser compared to Captain America. What some detractors forget is that EVERYONE is a loser compared to Captain America.

Maybe it is just the mustache and the outrageous accent that makes Batroc hard to take seriously.

By the way, I thought characters from MASTER OF KUNG-FU would appear in WINTER SOLIDER as Cap villains. At least a few of Shang-Chi's villains jumped over to Cap's rogues gallery, and I thought they were going to be CA: TWS villains.

The fairly recent CAPTAIN AMERICA & BATROC one-shot was quite good, I thought. I rather liked the idea that the outrageous accent is, how do you say mon capitan, the put on?

And making Batroc an unknowing expert in le parkour was a nice touch.

my favorite Batroc moment was from an issue of Captain America, and Cap needed info, so he let Batroc have one free shot at him if Batroc gave him what he needed.

Batroc told cap what he needed to know, kicked him in the jaw, and took off.

2nd favorite was "I had no idea that your fathers were heterosexual"
