Trekker subtext rapidly becoming text.
Apr. 20th, 2014 04:10 pmA month ago, I posted a few pages from the new Trekker TPB, Train to Avalon Bay, just to introduce it to people who weren't familiar with it. I want to post another page now, but don't worry, it's a 96-page TPB, so I should still be within the posting limits. To give a little background as to what's going on, Mercy and her friend and neighbor Molly were taking a vacation together, and were on the eponymous train. Unfortunately, there were also a couple of feds escorting a VIP on the train, prompting an attack by a terrorist group, causing a derailment. Mercy leads them in jumping off the train before it crashes, leading to this scene:

Now, I would say that there was homoerotic subtext between Mercy and Molly during the original run of this series in the eighties, but, if so, it was subtle enough for its existence to debatable. Mercy, certainly, had a boyfriend with whom she was fairly seriously involved. This, though, seems pretty blatant, to the point where it is only just barely subtext. I thought that was an interesting change, so I thought I'd post this page. Since the series is also a webcomic, you can check out this page here. You can also go back and read through the whole series and decide for yourself how much of a change this is from the earlier incarnation of the series.
