"I looked at the fact that there had been a couple of attempts to relaunch the Invaders relatively recently and they hadn’t been commercially successful. And there had been a lot of potential reasons for that, but the one trap I saw that I was determined not to fall into was the fact that they always go back to the same thing — the Invaders fighting Zemo or Strucker or sleeper robots that people don’t know about. All those tropes that we’ve seen over and over again with the Invaders." -- James Robinson, on his choice to avoid WWII villains

Aarkus uses his powers to transport them all to the Kree homeworld.

1) Since when did any Eternal consider themselves "gods?"

2) Did the Kree "Gods Whisper" explicitly only work on Asgardians? Because if not... That's pretty stupid on our hero's part. "Your stupid God Whisper won't work on the Asgardians!" "Well, what about the Olympians? Or the Egyptians? Or the Celts? Or the Hindu?" "...Shut up."

1) Since never. The only exception being when Thanos set himself up as one (Avengers: Celestial Quest, I think), but that didn't last either. And I would dearly love seeing the Kree try this on him.

Others have seen the Eternals as gods, so that might be good enough for the Kree "God Whisperer." (I've already got enough of a headache trying to figure out how the Kree could make a device that could control gods, much less gods of entirely different cultures/planets.)

Others have mistaken them for gods, rather than seeing them themselves as such, surely. There's always an actual god in these mistaken identity cases with Eternals, that they get (or give depending on one's point of view) the godly recognition from.

And worship doesn't usually turn people into gods in the MU anyway. Exceptions apply, yes, but gods tend to be created rather than transformed.

I think the whisper probably works through the belief people have given then in the past. I'm willing to bet that, given a cult of sufficient size and longevity devoted to him, even Captain America would be vulnerable.

They don't, but lots of other's do, which is why the names like Ikari, Sersi, Makkari, Zuras and the like have become part of Earth mythogy.

Without knowing the Whisper's parameters, the Asgardians may well not have thought about it's impact on other non-Asgardians semi-cosmic entities.

I don't think it is gods per say, but more a certain set of biological conditions. When you look at it, Eternals do posse similar traits to say Asgardians and Olympians such as long life, enhanced strength and durability.

That's hardly any indication of anything. Unless Amadeus and his coyote pup (or rather the Skrull pretending to be it) are gods too.

Prince Namor doesn't say "Moron."

Superhero names aren't "noms de plume." If anything I suppose you might say "nom de guerre."

I guess you could handwave it as Jan not knowing the meaning of the word and just thinking it sounded cool, thus also explaining the weird quotation marks around Cap's "French" comment.....though personally I'd imagine someone like Janet Van Dyne would be at least as likely to be fluent in French as Cap is...

International fashion designer Janet Van Dyne would most definitely know French IMHO.

And yes, the quotation marks are definitely weird.

So did Cap actually spend/age 12 years in Dimension Z? Because in that case he'd have to be around 50, on top of his 90-whatever chronological years.

Not that there's anything wrong with that, I just thought that Marvel has trying to keep all of its characters "young and hip", I mean, Kieron Gillen dropped Tony Stark down to being just 30 years old.

Sometimes and Some times it just keeps him in tip top shape for his age.

Basically what ever the writers need it to be. If he's going to be stuck in another dimension for years it'll keep him ageless.

If they need a flash foward to an older captain fighting a last battle then it'll just keep him in good shape for his age.

Yeah, remember when Superman and Wonder Woman spent a millenium fighting bad guys in an alternate dimension and came back completely unaltered?

what exactly constitutes a god in the marvel universe? they don't seem dependent on belief to exist so what makes a "god" different from a being with godly powers like the watchers or celestials

It could also have been an oversight where the Asgardians are the only pantheon that have 'such' a relationship with the Avengers and Defenders -- Hercules not withstanding -- that Bucky and Captain America didn't think to wonder on that.

given the latest issue of Moon Knight, I think it's leaning towards "insane and connected"...

...Torch's line 'Then that makes this is a rescue mission for Namor' was really jarring for me when I saw it. I'm surprised an editor or someone didn't catch it before publication.

On a whole though, I'm liking this story and the concept of something like the God Whisperer. I'm also really happy that Robinson is actually trying something other than 'WWII villains show up again' with the Invaders.

Forgive me, it's a Monday morning, but what's wrong with that sentence? They have to go rescue Namor, so it' sa rescue mission for Namor.

There's a grammatical error in it, specifically the part 'that makes this is a'. The whole sentence should either be 'Then that makes this a rescue mission for Namor' or 'Then this is a rescue mission for Namor'. The way the line is in the comic, it just sounds incredibly awkward, especially if you say it out loud.

First: Steve Pugh rules.

Second: I'm liking this comic a lot.

Third: Is it only me that's been noticing James Robinson seems to be having a lot more fun since he left NuDC? I'm enjoying his work for the first time since STARMAN.
