SPIDER ISLAND briefly gave us the Spectacular Spider-Herc. But something sort of similar happened once before, in MARVEL TEAM-UP (Vol 2) #2.

Spider-Man and Hercules are in Greece battling genetic constructs of various Greek legends. The bad guy, Dr. Zeus, wants to bring Greece to the forefront of Western Civilization again.

Well, it's not like Daredevil "borrowing" Captain America's shield, but...

Will Marvel ever introduce Hercules into the Marvel Cinematic Universe? And since the MCU Thor is so similar to Hercules, how would the MCU Hercules be different?

I love Herc's landing there. No stylish flair, no dramatic 3-point touch, just *THUNK* planted!

I doubt they will introduce Herc, (I would love to be wrong) but if they do I would imagine he'd be like a mirror to Thor. A well meaning clout that highlights all of Thor's worst aspects from the first movie, and that they would butt heads. But at the end of the day, they'd end up in a bar together drunk after fighting the good fight.

Which really makes me sorry about that Dwayne Johnson Hercules movie, I'd always thought after seeing him playing the gay Samoan character in Be Cool he was my top choice for Herc.

I wasn't really thinking the The Rock could play Herc gay. It's that he had such a sense of humor about himself he could pull off the full tilt awesome a Hercules action comedy really would need.

lol no i just meant the look in general, he doesn't do it for me. he's too muscley and not hairy enough. for me, Herc needs well defined "football player" type build, than a body builder build. and hairy....

i just sorta slippped into the gay thing. as i haven't seen many actors, other than in ummm not main stream acting... *ahem* with the build i was thinking of.

One thing they could do with an MCU Hercules is contrast the way in which he and Thor interact with Earth. Thor in the movies seems more taken with the idea of Midgard than anything else, and the only real connection he has with it is Jane Foster. Hercules on the other hand, in the comics, has always been eager to embrace the modern world, reveling in being a celebrity, going to Hollywood, stuff like that. Cast him as kind of a version of Thor who's "gone native" so to speak.

OH like he has been living in our world the entire time, and has been doing minor hero work on and off without anyone noticing because he wants to keep a low (heroic) profile.... and maybe he is bisexual, he dates a starlet, but then dates a young actor... they meet at a bar, or a show, they look across at each other, the other guy smiles shyly, Herc has this big old grin. he walks over to him, buys him a drink. hands touch... eyes meet... sudden silence... sudden heat....

wait what.... this... this went through like several different changes in one post...

That's another good point actually, the comics have mostly dealt in heavy implication, but the MCU could have Hercules as their first LGBTQ character. And having his bisexuality take a backseat to his role as a fun-loving adventurer would be a refreshing and low key way to play that in a film.

They could also play up the divine angle with Herc - after all MCU Thor (per The Dark World) isn't not a god, just high-tech alien from another world. Herc can, in contrast, have prayers directed to him. Or have his adventures following a more "magic" kind of logic (e.g. sphinxes with human head and breasts on a lion's body with eagle wings instead of " ohh look a more "biologically plausible" alien thing that only kinda sorta looks like a lion with a human's head") :P

I would love to see some out and out, capital-M Magic in the MCU, but I think Marvel might be hesitant to set up Herc as the genuine article when they spent so much time establishing that Thor isn't. If they just played it with a little ambiguity, like Hercules not jumping to say otherwise when people call him a demigod, that would be enough for me.
