...could this work? I'm liking these two together.
People said that Ock left Peter holding the bag on so much, including this relationship, but it would be the ultimate "eff you" back to him if this worked... Without Peter even TRYING to say "eff you."
Also love that Peter is telling the truth for once in his life.
Such a sigh of relief that Peter just came clean and the conversation went like that. One of the benefits of fiction is that the writer can decide to write it this way.
I re-read the thing and tried imagining how awful this must be for her. She hasn't flipped out yet. That'll come eventually I think but at least she grasps the situation and knows it to be the truth. Makes me care about the character.
I still don't love this direction, I think Peter is way too cool with what's happened to him, and Anna Marie is handling the news that her boyfriend was a reformed arch-criminal in a stolen meatsuit who no longer exists suspiciously well, but as a non-angsty way to do this story, I have to admit that it's pretty good.
I actually wouldn't mind seeing Anna Marie stick around as part of Spidey's supporting cast, though her becoming his love interest again would be a little too weird for me.
I don't see her becoming a love interest again, but I can see her becoming a solid part of supporting cast for at least awhile.
Anna is a very intelligent person with a lot of self-control. I am guessing that she's holding onto her upset/emotional reaction until she's alone, honestly.
i agree on all grounds. I mean one of the things she like about "peter" were not really any of the physical things. she liked his tenderness, his brain ect. so i can see her rationalizing her feelings for him. and honestly, on HER i belive it. like the cooking, and the taking a walk. she's dealign with it, in her own way, in her own time. on her, i believe it.
Anna takes the news suspiciously well in front of Peter, and after he's gone to fight super electric aliens or whatever and she's all alone she pours herself a nice glass of wine/chocolate/beverage and digest the news gazing at the city in the night, unable to sleep, thinking a thousand thoughts, and doesn't break down, and is back to business next morning. Would work for me.
It's not so much that I could never see it working, more that I think it would be weird to do now. Sometime down the line, sure, but it would need something like a year or more, publishing time, for it to not read weird for me.
Because doing it soon would be basically have Peter Parker coming back from the dead, being dropped into an in-progress serious relationship (they're still living together after all) and carrying on with it after a short period of trepidation.
It's not a course of action that I could buy either character taking. As emotional reactions go, it simply wouldn't read as human to me.
I'm wondering why Peter thinks Anna should be the one to move out, if it was Octavius that moved to the new place and was living there rather than him? You wouldn't think the apartment would feel like home to him.
It is refreshing to see Peter being completely aboveboard with someone about relationships and secrets. I'd be interested to see if they could become a romantic couple, but I'm not sure that would be even possible given that Anna fell for someone whose personality is so different.
I like this, I do. Their connection may be gone but their shared secret unites them as well. She can make his life easier without being a love interest.
Of course, she can always be written out in one panel, so I won't get too attached.

Could... could this have been the plan all along?

Pete's telling the truth. He just never told Johnny that he gets tongue-burns every time because he didn't want to hurt his feelings.
