"Looking at Uber 12 pages. Virginia Woolf is going to be the character find of 2014, mark my words." -- Kieron Gillen

Later, Stephanie tries to commit suicide by exposing herself to the superpower-granting catalyst, which instantly kills anyone who isn't genetically susceptible to superpowers. However, she's stopped by Alan Turing:

While this is well written and well drawn, some of this series feels like I'm being lectured for liking Captain America. "This is what using superhumans in WWII would have been like, you monster!"

I think the problem is more the Nazis got them first! And that they're really powerful, gamechangers rather than just elite agents.

And hey, most of the Marvel supersoldier program backfired too, with Capt being one of the rare exceptions.

Yeah. There's a huge difference between having one guy who is "merely" the peak of human ability and entire units of people who can tear apart tanks. To say nothing of the battleships who are practically physical gods.

And it's not as if we didn't already have this series.

I feel like there's a reference to a painting I should catch with that cover, but it's not ringing any specific bells. Thoughts, anyone?

It reminds me of Botticelli's The Birth of Venus in a superscience with deatherubs instead of cherubs.

Was she trying to commit suicide, I thought Stephanie realized she had tank-potential when I read it.

She might have forgotten that herself. She was really drunk at the time.

Love the dramatic irony on the last full scan, even if it is a bit heavy handed.

I almost thought she said she was trained in "fencing, gymkata, reading..."

That would have been the raddest thing ever.

Honestly considering this issue and the FBCD issue kind of shows that we really know jack about Stephanie, makes me wonder if that's really her. Maybe the real Stephanie is already dead, and this is Freya defecting using Stephanie's identity.

When asked whether Stephanie was her real name, she just responded that it's was what they were going to call her.
