The Further Adventures of Barry Kuda

When we last saw Barry Kuda, he had just restored Queen Merma to her throne (although opinions on the legitimacy of her rule vary).

Incidentally, I have three comments to make about this first page, and then I'll let you read the rest of the story without interruption. One, I love the layout- it's just really cool. Two, this is the point where I started appreciating Algie- his laid back, "Sure, she's a queen and she obviously digs you, but what about that waitress?" attitude to the whole thing is a lot of fun, even if he's not quite as good at the punching as Barry.

Three, in this second story, the underwater denizens of Queen Merma's realm (and, as we'll soon see, King Octo's as well) have suddenly gotten a lot more human looking.

Also, at first I thought Belzam was snickering that the waitress in Frisco would not expect an attack. And, well, he's probably not wrong...

Although, even if my theory that Algie is nursing a secret crush on Barry is correct, I bet he just doesn't want to limit his dating choices to a bunch of sea monkeys.

Since humans are bouyant, I assume the anklet's they're both wearing are like diver's weights so they stay on the seasbed

It's probably a lot more practical to just keep wearing them when scaling the wall than not wear them and have no leverage because they're flaoting all the time.

There's something about that "Hey, boy..." panel that made me automatically insert a word balloon for the tentacle-headed guy: "Hey yourself, stranger."

I want to say that Barry's being a condescending asshole in his assumption that Merma has no army, but based on the rest of the comic, it appears that he is absolutely right.

Also, why does everyone refer to Barry and Algie as 'the Earthmen'? I mean, they may be under the sea, but they're still on Earth. Shouldn't they be 'surface-dwellers' or 'landlubbers'? Or hell, even 'Americans', since Barry introduced himself as being from America in the first issue?

It's probably an elemental thing. Barry dwells on the Earth, not in the Water, hence "Earthmen"

Half the time I'm wondering how Merma's bustier is staying in one place, since it doesn't seem to attach to anything every other panel.
