"Alex's return seemed like the perfect complication to throw at Nico. Alex was Nico's rock in the early days with the Runaways. He was her boyfriend and their leader. Alex was the one with all the answers. When he betrayed them and sided with his parents, it broke Nico's heart but she never stopped caring about him. She even tried bringing him back from the dead.

Now Nico is struggling with another "which side to take" decision. Alex is both the best and worst thing that could possibly happen to her in this moment. So, you know, of course we wanted to go there."

I miss Vaughan's Runaways.

Dammit, this means bringing back Gert will be too hokey for at least another year...

Eh, bringing back Gert wouldn't imply that they're actively trying to have Nico and Hazmat to go the dark side with high botched "sympathetic reasons".

Was he trying to help them, though, or just earn his own way out of where he was stuck? It always struck me as the latter.

Great now I'm wondering again what the hell was up with that Gert in the last issue of Kathryn Immonen's run of Runways that never got resolved.

Oh, this is a cheap trick to get me to pick up this book. And it might work.

Hell, if there was a book that was all resurrection stories, I would totally buy it. One issue would be about the bus explosion kids navigating their way out of various afterlives. Another would be about the Kangaroo wrestling Death to come back or Nomad slipping between dimensions.

Wait until the trade's available used. That way if you hate it, at least you won't have encouraged Marvel to keep it going.

you know what... aside from the new nightcrawler... HAS any book (and superman) detailed a deceased character's efforts returning from the grave?

Nope. Vaughan's run ended satisfyingly enough for me. That was the last time I read anything Runaways related.

This. I didn't mind Immonen's run at all, but that was stabbed in the back before it properly got going. The issue tying in to the X-Men in San Francisco was fun, too. Everything else though, from Whedon to Moore? Terrible.

This just reeks of Hopeless baiting people, albeit in a different manner than he did Arena.

Nice try by Hopeless, too bad I still don't give a damn.

Besides if any book should cover Alex's return, it should be a Runaways book, not this godawful waste of paper.

And he's going to die again by the end of this run anyway. Just a feeling.

I haven't followed much of Avengers Undercover, mainly because the hook of the series is "PTSD might turn some of the good characters bad." That bugs me, as PTSD doesn't "turn you bad." That's mixing up PTSD with the Joker's "One Bad Day" theory from THE KILLING JOKE.

That's one of the core evils of this series and generally prevents it from being enjoyable at all.

There are other major problems with this series, but this is a vile implication at its core.

Cheap shock tactic to grab attention and aleviate lagging sales? This really IS a sequel to Arena.

That said, the lettered version of this actually does show . . . a better construction of a story than the last issue,. Not good, but much better (then again, the last issue was marred by extreme stupidity, tell-don't-show storytelling and attempting to build sympathy with characters that I couldn't care less about thanks to her Zombie Mom).

This is also the second extremely cheap resurrection pulled by Hopeless in this series which only serves to diminish the impact of the deaths he caused even further. Especially since the first one was done in error.

Well, I guess it's an indication, if any were needed, that they've written off the idea of reviving the Runaways title ever. Because there's no way something like this would be handled outside of the main title otherwise.

Just sad that Vaughan gave Marvel such a great gift with the characters and they basically flushed the book down the toilet by allowing delays to kill any remaining enthusiasm for the book until it was Old Yella'd.
