While Charlie Soule's story for She-Hulk has been interesting, lots of people have been put off by Javier Pulido's rather idiosyncratic art style and his really creepy eyed Jennifer.

Well, with issue #5 and fill in artist Ron Wimberly, I would say all is forgiven Javier.

Back Story: When Jennifer left her previous law firm, the only open case she had was "The Blue Folder" a mysterious legal case she has no memory of. So she's trying to piece together the details from some people who were named in the case.

(I would call this perspective forced at gunpoint)
This of course, is the Shocker, who immediately runs away from her.

Meanwhile Hellcat is meeting with Tigra, who was also named in the suit.

(This has to be the most unsexy image of Tigra ever drawn.)

But the second she names the plaintiff, Greer goes berserk, attacking Patsy. And once she's down, she attempts to throw herself off the building.

(And apparently she dug into her secret stash of Pym Particles)
While the story does have my attention, I would look forward to the return of Javier Pulido; creepy Jennifer Eyes and all.

When did Tigra become Lion-O?

I mean...*Marvel* Tigra...become...Lio...YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!

Wimberly's a fill in artist? Oh, thank god. I feel like one of the the few people who actually likes Pulido's art, which made this dramatic change all my more jarring.

Yeah, I'm gonna jump on the bad-art bus, here. I'm not exactly a fan of the walleye-vision and Barbie-Jen the other artist does, but this is a definite step down. Possibly several steps, taken at a tumble.

Interested in reading the issue. The backlash against Ron Wimberly is kind of odd to me.

Reminds me of the flack that Eric Canete got during his issue of Amazing Spider-man. Both worked in animation (Canete on JLU and Wimberly on Black Dynamite), both getting flack for weird perspective and unsexy women...

I generally like his art (own his vertigo comic "Prince of Cats).

Maybe... But one thing I like about Marvel is that it's willing to veer away from the house style. Which is something DC does less of with their generic Neal Adams style realism.

Part of me is going really? The guy who was hired to do the Black Dynamite character designs? Really? The guy who was commissioned by the Criterion Collection to illustrate one of their movies? The guy who did that cool Blaxploitation variant cover for Mighty Avengers?

And the draftmanship for most of these pages is pretty solid. All the weird perspectives are clearly a stylistic choice rather then being from lack of skill (Note: That doesn't invalidate your dislike of it. A stylistic choice can still suck).

I like his linework and coloring style. Although from these pages yes, he doesn't draw pretty people. Maybe I'm so used to his style that it isn't crazy jarring to me...

The scene at the end is particularly bad. I can't tell if I'm supposed to be looking at a group of people having fun unaware of impending doom or a group of people reacting in terror of the impending doom.

Well, no one can complain that Marvel's art all looks like it was produced on an assembly line...

This reminds me of those Aeon Flux cartoons I used to watch on MTV back in the 90s.

if it's an artist I like then by all means, crank up the assembly line.

Pretty sure Wimberly did the art on a vertigo one shot called "Sentences: the life and times of MF Grimm".

The art was wayyyyy better than this.

I guess I'm in the minority, then, because I'm digging the art, precisely because it is so completely bonkers. A lot of the current comics that get posted here, my eyes just slide right over them because they all look alike to me. This Wimberly fellow has soul and a point of view. Good on him.

On a completely different note, it's nice to see Greer and Patsy are friends. Have they had much interaction before this?

I think I'm with you in this one, the shifting forced perspective is... unsettling, perhaps deliberately, but it's pretty obviously being drawn that way because the artist wants it to be.

lack of talent or intent is not required for art to be bad. This is unpleasant to look at and destroys any interest in it for me, which is very hard for art to do. For a commercial publication, that's bad art

True, but one of the accusations being made about this is that it looks amateurish, to me it doesn't, which is why suggesting it was a deliberate chocie by a professional seemed relevant.

Yeah, there's a difference between whether you personally like a certain art and whether it's good, and too often fans conflate the two.

(Not that I'm not saying both standards aren't subjective because they are, but they're different *kinds* of subjective, if that makes sense.)

The art's a mixed bag for me. I like how dynamic and energetic it is and it tells a great story but the faces don't work at all for me. It feel very choppy, which again works for action.

I do like how he plays with different "lens" , creating different visual distortions; i.e. the fish eye lens on the first page.

I actually really liked the art in this issue. Finding out that Ron Wimberly was drawing was what got me to pick up this issue in the first place, since I haven't been overly interested in the series so far.

I do think the way he drew Tigra is a bit weird, but his She-Hulk and Hellcat both looked great to me, and I really love the way he did the acrobatics and fighting between Tigra and Hellcat.

I wouldn't be so sure, Tigra only goes all freaky when Hellcat says a certain name to her, some kind of post-hypnotic suggestion sort of thing, which doesn't look to me like Puppet Master's MO.

Maybe it's a photographer thing, but I actually kind of dig this art.

That is a gorgeous, striking, beautiful splash page. I really like the crazy wide angle shots overall.

And the low value contrast in the coloring is unusual, but as I sit in a humid room on a summer night, it feels sticky and summery and sexy and right to me.. It's sort of crepuscular, with a dusky sky and lighting from the side.

I probably wouldn't be that nuts about this art in black and white, but colored, I think it's kind of sexy.

The art is neat but really weird and kinda jarring. I like it. It fits the really unsettling nature of this story - Hellcat getting "gutted" (kinda) has me pretty worried, mostly because Soule nailed her reaction (having her say a simple "oh no" really made it feel like an actual injury; how worry and pain sets in after realizing how bad your wound is).

Yeah, I'm not getting on the bandwagon either. The art is pretty idiosyncratic, sure, and a jarring contrast to the previous artist, but if you think that this is worse than, say, Liefeld, I'm really not sure what to say to you.

I'm digging the perspective, panel composition, and even the line work. But somehow the Tigra/Lion-o mash-up ain't working for me, and I LOVE those two characters : /

I like Pulido's art too, this book is one of my favs. I mean, I did pass it by when it first came out, but it grew on me.
