When last we left our robot heroine, she got blowed up by a bomb. Now there are some reporters going around trying to cover the explosion and Windblade's recovery.





Windblade tries to figure out why Starscream would be trying to kill her, since she hasn't done anything to him. All she's done is try to fix Metroplex.




Fortunately, Chromia sees the news report and realizes that Waspinator was told to avoid going somewhere inside Metroplex. So they try talking to him.




He does.



Windblade rounds up a posse and the news crew to get evidence that Starscream is sabotaging Metroplex.

Yeah but, didn't Optimus tell Starscream that she was basically spying on him while Optimus was away? I can't imagine Starscream would be happy to have Optimus' buddy "keep an eye on him" even if technically she hasn't openly antagonized him.

Plus, it's Starscream. He tends to think that everyone has an agenda and is out to get him. When there's a problem, he doesn't think 'now that's an unlucky accident', he thinks 'okay, who was doing that to screw me over?' The fact that Windblade's in a position of authority that could challenge him is enough to make him hostile to her.

In fairness, he has enough people pissed at him ALL THE TIME for that to be an eminently reasonable presumption.

You say that as if said people don't have utterly valid reasons to be pissed off at him.

... Mind, another part of the presumption is because that's what he'd be doing if the situation were reversed. Hell, it's what he's done more times than people bother to count (which leads back into my first point...)

So, Rattrap's a villain in IDW?

Former Autobot who resented the fact he was the sort of guy stuck on the crappy assignments while people like Prowl and Bumblebee ended up as part of Primes inner circle. When Starscream convinced the people of Iacon to turn against both the Autobots and Decepticons, he stuck around, and managed to get on Starscreams good side. Since then he's been working as Starscreams most visible assistant, delivering memos, filing reports, recording blackmail material, that sort of thing.

Not evil, just... kind of slimy. Think early Beast Wars Rattrap. Something of a jerk, mostly loyal only to himself. It's worth keeping in mind that, in this story arc, it's taking place entirely from Windblades perspective. We haven't seen Starscreams or Rattraps point of view on the events yet.

(Spoilers for todays issue of Windblade below)

Windblade, after things go somewhat wrong, accuses Starscream of the bomb and Metroplexs power issues. He's surprised, as he (with his usual paranoia and expecting everyone else to be like him) thought she was the one behind it all to discredit him. Windblade seeing Rattrap at the bomb site in issue 1 was a decoy, and he hasn't actually killed anyone yet. He's rather brutal towards her this issue, but that's because he believes that she's part of an Alien plot to capture Cybertron.

Even in Beast Wars, he was a bit shady and self-serving...and abrasive...though he had a line.

His Animated counterpart, Rattletrap, is a straight up, overt, crook.

This one is pretty much splitting the difference.

The eyes in this style of artwork are a great change of pace from Transformers standard.
