JJJ on TV is one of the best and most obvious moves for the character. Hell they did it on the Ultimate Spider-Man tv series.. while the show is mostly shit, I do enjoy JJJ.
Honestly, the idea of having JJJ be a cable TV commentator is maybe the best idea that Slott has had for the Spiderverse since... well, since before BND, but Ramos' art is too distracting.
It's good, but only for a more villainous interpretation of the character. Whereas newspaper editor is a position that allows him to be cast in multiple lights, I don't think you're gonna find many people who think cable commentators are anything but human garbage.
But I say this as someone who's always preferred Jameson to be portrayed as good at heart, but kind of dick, so that's just one perspective.
I'd offer Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert as counterexamples, regarding cable news commentators and the "human garbage" claim, but I really, seriously doubt Jameson would ever be remotely like either of them, so your point stands.
Stewart and Colbert are comedian on comedy shows. Neither are cable new anchor. Probably the best in term of quality news would be Rachel Maddow, but her personality isn't comparable to JJJ.
You say that, but Colbert and Stewart offer up counterpoints and can STILL be very informative in terms of getting real facts across. Nestled in with the poking fun at FOX and the like, they actually do their research rather than 'ehrmagerd, black people are causing the apocalypse' or 'ehrmagerd, this guy had a son who was taken prisoner by the Taliban, causing him to learn their language and grow a beard, therefore he's ONE OF THEM'.
Lifting makes it sound kind of shifty. Marvel loves streamlining their media so I wouldn't be surprised if Slott was asked to incorporate ideas from the cartoon into the comic.
Could JJJ really talk about national issues? To the rest of America, Spider-Man being a hero or a menace is a local NYC matter.
Plus, someone might finally point out Jonah thinks Spider-Man is "supposed" to be heroic at certain times. Or something like "Masked vigilantes are bad... Except when the Scorpion is trying to kill me.". (Fifty years and JJJ still has vague reasons.)
JJJ can be an excellent journalist when he's not narrow-mindedly focused on topics like Spider-Man. I'd love to see him tackle all the other weighty subjects of the Marvel Universe. NuHuman rights. Why mutants are misunderstood people. The role of the Avengers as superheroes of government stooges. SHIELD: Corrupt organization or necessary evil. Captain America: REAL GODDAMNED HERO. Why first responders deserve respect and support. Why politicians are all lying scumsucking weasels. The Fantastic Four: why aren't they sharing more of their technology. Atlantis: Just an urban legend.
Maybe they'll put it in his contract: "You can only go on a Spider-Man rant once a week."
You have to figure, he could be a colorful personality at the very least, an insightful and cutting commentator if he restrained himself and regained his journalistic mindset.
Of course, the show will probably be Spider-Man: Threat or Menace 24/7.
