I'm always surprised when I see something this good with Tom Taylor's name on it. He seems to excel at these sorts of emotional scenes, but they come so infrequently that I keep forgetting he's so good at them. It feels like he's not really writing to his own strengths on big fight books like Injustice and Earth 2.
Ironically (or frustratingly, not sure which), I suspect it's precisely because it's not in the main DCU that they can do this sort of thing. No other titles to be beholden too, no real continuity to worry about...
I think it's as much the fact it's being done well (or treated as absurdly as it might be, cf Dick's "instant death by falling down") as much as anything.
I really don't get this title when it's following the game's plot its at best the equivalent of painting by numbers and at worse terrible. When it's killing off folks who don't appear in the game it is even worse than the worst of the game's plot.
And yet we get getting these brief character moments that are just so freaking good that they outshine pretty much everything else being published at the moment. I
...I think we just witnessed the seeds of Harley Quinn's return to the Light.
With no Mistah J around, Harley realizes that she has someone else important in her life to please. So she joins the Insurrection, so that her daughter can say, "Mommy was a hero!"
Sad thing is, I wouldn't be surprised if the Joker wasn't joking in the scene Harley described, and really didn't care she was gone. He probably just saw her as a possession.
Well, having just bought the tie in game and played it, getting Harley's ending for the arcade mode... Lets just say it didn't work out that way for Harley.
Supposedly the Dee Dee twins' mother is a daughter she had with a man named Davison or Davidson she married when she was hiding out waiting for the statute of limitations to run out for the crimes she committed with Mistah J. Yeah, that's right. Harley got married and became Harley Davidson. Harley referred to the Dee Dees' mom as a bitch so I doubt Lucy is that kid.
Honestly, after all the evil crap Harley pulled with Joker, Supes can throw Harley into the sun and I wouldn't really give any f*cks. There's a point when Arkham's revolving door policy gets so absurd that slaughtering the whole pack of them or tossing them into the phantom zone just makes sense.
Though the Phantom Zone has an even worse reformation rate of it's population than Arkham, especially since those in it are intangible phantoms who can see and hear anything they want in the outside world when they're in there.
Because people who are genuinely mentally ill and have shown the ability to reform/get cured must surely be judged in the same manner as people who are aware of right and wrong but just don't care, like the Joker.
It's like there's a contest on for worst Harley costume.
And as much as I like this moment, I generally prefer to assume that Joker doesn't have genitals, and thinking otherwise squicks me out a little bit. xD
I feel like this costume could be onto something, if it didn't have that 'forgot to put pants on' look to it. Pull the middle together and add some shorts/skirt/trousers and it might be quite nice.
