"I thought that Warren Ellis had a really elegant device that he came up with in 'New Universal,' which fit in perfectly into this bigger device that I had made. Plus, I've always liked those characters, especially the Starbrand. So I took the opportunity to use them." - Jonathan Hickman
""I thought that Warren Ellis had a really elegant device that he came up with in 'New Universal,' which fit in perfectly into this bigger device that I had made."
And right there is why I went from being a Hickman fan to being annoyed by his work. He doesn't tell stories, he makes "devices". That image keeps showing up in his stuff.
As for these scans, when did Strange leave the team? And why did they LET him?
(And let's not go into the body-shaming Hickman put Sebastian through...)
Dr. Strange is willingly corrupted now in exchange for power. Guess he wasn't powerful enough as the sorcerer supreme.
Then again seeing this is set before the New Avengers' most recent incursion event in which the Illuminati find Strange is dealing in dark magics, there's no way they could've known that. And Steve would be time jumping.
Despite her codename, I've never been that certain that Wanda has much magical skill or power, she used the rituals and routines of magic to guide her probability powers, but that's not actually magic.
When Kurt Busiek added in the Chthonic "chaos grenades" notion to her powers I think she did a bit more magical type stuff, but since Disassembled, I thought she was back to probability powers.
It tends to waffle between Chaos magic, Probability and good old mutant reality warping. There's also stuff like the life entity thing from Children's crusade so basically Wanda's powers make no sense and have pretty much become whatever a writer needs them to be.
i always thought that her powers were a combination of Mutant and magical? like, she has her probabilitie powers, but those powers also allow her to use magic. (she was at one time conscidered for Sorcerer Supreme...)
but i think it's like obsidianwolf said. She is basically a swiss army magical mutant.
Hickman did that. He devoted an entire issue to having John Garrett put Sebastian through boot camp because, apparently, you can't be a powerful mage unless you are physically fit.
Caselli is just getting better imo. It seems like he's drawing less cartoony proportions but still drawing characters in exaggerated comic booky poses. I think his stuff looks really good
Now, looking at some of the Starbrand origin, it looks like Kevin just "went off" and over 3000 people died. Like, he did it, not knowing what he did or acting out of any intention or malice.
So I have decided I'm just going to comment on every post I read. This is the post I chose to announce it on, because I had nothing else to say. I don't really get this whole thing.

Writer also forgets Wanda Maximoff.

Wait... Sebastian Druid... was he one of Fury's Catapillars?
I thought his powers WEREN'T magical in nature? or by virtue of being Dr Druid's son was he able to learn?
Also... they slimmed him down.... i mean he wasn't even THAT big before... but at least his body type was different....
