Defalco claims it was outselling Thor and the Avengers combined at the time it was cancelled. He claims that Thunderstrike, Warmachine and the 2099 books were canned because someone higher up believed that they were hurting the core book sales so Thor's sales would go up if Thunderstrike was canned and Spiderman sales would go up if Spiderman 2099 was cancelled. Ironman would go up if War machine was cancelled. Stuff like that.

Distributor numbers from the time period do not back up the claim he made so it might have been hyperbole. Or perhaps he was refering to direct subscription sales.
