I would be more sympathetic to the Mauler if the comic didn't open with him killing a highway patrol cop simply because it would take too much effort to do anything but shoot him.
It could use more character moments like this but as a whole it has been pretty entertaining. On another note that policeman.... "ma'am we don't want things to escalate so let me point this completely ineffectual gun at the known avenger who only came here because he heard you crying for help."
What's wrong with that line, exactly? Not trying to be critical of you or anything, I just don't see anything wrong with it myself, and I want to know what you find wrong with it.
Flashbacks of Cry for Justice, the fact that this is all pointless because Marvel won't allow Hyperion to actually make a big difference and it's not like this kind of story hasn't been done countless times in and outside Marvel.
I thought that's where they were going too, but I was pleasantly surprised. I thought Hyperion's father was going to go off on some idiotic Cry For Justice-ish spiel, but saying Hyperion can teach people? Can inspire people to be better? That's wonderful. That's what comics needs more of, not bullshit like Carnage being passed off as "chaotic good".
On closer examination it appears to be the result of some sort of "Reverse Alignment" thingy in one of the upcoming comics, so it's not quite as terrible as it first appeared.
On the other hand it's still Carnage, who I really would rather be consigned to the dustbin of history.
Though it seems a shame the kid was, presumably, fridged for dramatic effect (I'm assuming it was his son that was killed in the car accident, and the kid he abducted was a random kid who happened to look like Danny(
True, but I still like the idea of revisiting an established continuity. Brendan's grief is quite real--his subsequent actions are what makes him a supervillain.
I've always liked the Mauler, ever since the Armor Wars storyline, where he gives up his suit to Iron Man without a fight, reasoning he can always steal another one later. A nice, pragmatic sort of mercenary.
For real, how is Hyperion still going around in just a black version of his original Squadron Supreme outfit? I mean, I don't think it's fundamentally bad, but it's an outfit that is very much of it's time, it looks dated. It looks a little better with the beard in Avenger's #35 this week, the flash forward issue, but I'm really surprised Marvel hasn't tried to give him something new.
Nah, dig that scene in the living room. No weird lighting effects and it comes across as a flat dark grey. I think it's supposed to be a mourning colour, and it seems to shift from red to grey after his world is destroyed.
Except when he's with Brendan it's clearly blue and in space I think. Also his costume shifting from red to blue? It looks more like the effects of the red incursion.
So basically, "You will give the people an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders.."
