Storm and Callisto ended up getting along pretty well, considering their somewhat stabby history.

Callisto ended up keeping them for a while. She had them in that short lived non-British Excalibur book.

She lost them during House of M, which is kinda weird seeing as they weren't really a mutant thing so much as a thing caused by a mutant, but hey.

Sidenote, this isn't Masque's first time tentacling someone up. His first victim? A certain Miss Jean Grey. Who was also weirdly cool with the whole thing.

"In some ways, I suspect, she's starting to like it, the way she keeps calling them 'incredible' and playing with rats and using them to braid her hair. Or maybe not, who can say? DAMN, I'm mad she snuck up on me. My observational skills are usually so GOOD!"

It looks to me like Jean was rapidly convinced by their immense practicality

Tentacles in a hot tub. Rule 34: it just happens.

I never got Callisto. She hid in the sewers as a mutant, but her power was enhanced senses. She could hear, see, and smell better than others and not to avery superhuman degree. Not as keen a smell as Logan, and not that she could hear miles away, just maybe a whisper on the other side of the street. Let's be honest, it's barely a power. I think they added the tentacles simply to make her more mutant-y.

I'd always wondered what actual powers she had. There was never an explanation in the comics--at least, not when she was introduced--and you have to wonder why she chose the Morlocks as she didn't look out of place in society, nor would her powers make her seem like a witch or something along those lines.

I'm sure she was given a dandy origin at some point, but I've never seen it.

As far as ther Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe edition, her origin was mysterious, She had been a beautiful woman, who in unexplained circumstances lost an eye. She withdrew from the world and sort of fell out of society, ending up living in the streets and sewers where she found "The Alley", an abaondoned nuclear shelter built under New York... She settled there and with the aid of fellow outcast Caliban (whose power was detecting other mutants) she established the original underground-dwelling society of mutants called the Morlocks.

Her powers were enhanced senses including impressive night vision (ideal for the sewer life) , everything else was hard work and training.

She's probably had bits of that amended since then (The mid/late 1980's) but that's what I've got.

I'm afraid to ask, but why did she have Masque give her tentacles, or were Marvel's artists just into a lot of Hentai at this point in time?

She didn't have it done by choice. She had gotten mixed up with the Arena an underground fight club like society of mutants and Masque had taken it over. Masque while in disquise based on IIRC Marylin Monroe altered her to make her a better fighter.

Storm was captured and also mutated by Masque a few times as a form of torture and at the end they over threw masque and all the ones who wanted the alterations removed got them done. Callisto liked her new tentacles and kept them. The Arena was then allowed to continue under Callisto's leadership as a haven for mutants and folks were now given the choice to fight or not since many of the mutants did get off on the fight club aspect but it was no longer mandatory.

Hmm...I always thought one of Masque's limitations was that he/she could not alter his/her features.

There was a deleted scene that showed it was a high tech body suit disguise. There was going to be a scene that got cut that showed her in a room of all these disguises based on celebrities with Masque mentioning maybe being Elvis next IIRC.

But it got cut and never showed up in the comic so out of the blue Masque showed up looking like a beutiful blonde woman.

I have a thing for tentacles, but the fact that they replace their arms squicks me out. I'm feeling so conflicted right now.
But, hey!, braiding our own hair that easily looks pretty handy.

I find precisely this fact (the replacing of arms) to be the hot part. I'm so tired of cute monster girls (i.e. the convention that all monster races, alien breeds, demon spawn, and hideous persecuted mutants just so happen to have all females with the same generic conventionally-attractive human body), that I now perceive some touches of the actually monstruous & alien as attractive, out of sheer novelty.

Agreed! I'm pretty much a-okay with Callisto having tentacle arms, which she uses to feel up Storm in a hot tub. And to me, the next scene very much reads as Callisto being like "I don't like the boys you keep bringing home, Charles!" So between girls with tentacles and Charles/Erik drama...this post basically has everything I could ever want or need XDXDXD.

Oh, oops- I didn't mean to imply that what Claremont was writing was *wrong* in anyway; I own my share of kinks and am the last person to give anybody else the stink eye. I'm just saying that Claremont seems to go through set themes with his characters- mind control, BDSM, that sort of thing, to the point where you see it in one of his stories and you're like, well, there it is again. That's all. Definitely not trying to kink-shame anybody, and I'm sorry if it came off that way. Cheers!

Is it just me, or does everyone seem sort of non chalant about the whole tentacle thing?

I mean with Callisto I get her not caring: She was the leader of the Morlocks, so she's used to being around weird people, and the tentacles are pretty useful (And kinky), plus I presume at the time we see her in the above scans she's had them a while.

But Jean? She just got them and she's sitting around like its no big deal (Well, she may be in shock, she's got this weird dead eyed stare going on), and she's busy playing around with them.

I mean come on, if I woke up and my hands had been replaced by masses of tentacles, I'd at least have a a half hour or so of "Holy fuck what happened to me I'm a monster" before I realized "Hey, tentacles are pretty cool."

It's not just you. Masque seems to be the same sort of creepy bastard Proteus is, and even if they didn't want to sell his creepiness the same way, it's the elephant in the room and just ignoring it doesn't work too well.

I remember reading those issues, especially when every time Tentisto grabbed someone, there was an entire page usually of her tentacles grabbing the person. Then I became sadden when there was little to no r34 on her in this state
