The last of the Doyle Four was released last week, by Ray Fawkes and Ben Templesmith. Here's what happened:

The Midnight Shift gets a visit from an IA rep who's trying to audit their department. Jim Corrigan (of Batman Eternal, and also The Spectre) makes the new guy tag along for a case:

The art doesn't really sell this (particular) scene, but it's still creepy as all hell.

Ooh, perfect segue!

Here is where the art really shines. I hope Batman keeps a 'Horror' closet next to his 'Sci-Fi' one.

Or maybe he doesn't, which is why the Midnight Shift gets assigned this particular workload.

Batman was dealing with the likes of Doctor Death (and his Monster Men), the vampiric Monk and Dala within the first year of operation, so I would imagine he has a suitablly gothic chamber as his Horror Closet.

His Horror Closet is probably revealed when he presses the right stud on his utility belt. The doors have little wings!

So, kids are being abducted at night by a mysterious metal faced wraith, taken to a run down classroom, and brainwashed into speaking gibberish.

You know, at times like this I'm starting to think maaaaybe movie Ras had the right idea about Gotham. Because apparently, this is a thing that happens in Gotham. Your kid can be taken in the night by a creepy shadowy ghost with a metal mask face and forced to speak nonsense.

Yeah, but then again, the property values in Gotham are EXTREMELY low, and what with the current state of the economy and all, it's just one of those things you learn to deal with in order to keep having the lowest average rent in the state.

And mad scientists...

Ra's was totally right about Old Gotham

Remember the shiny New Gotham in Batman Beyond? That city, which was like Metropolis without Superman, was what was built when Old Gotham was leveled by the earthquake. New Gotham had some weirdos and couple of bad terrorist attacks (mostly averted) but it was nothing like Old Gotham for crime and loonies. Sure, the Gordons were supposed to have cleaned up Gotham PD but to be honest destroying Old Gotham and starting over from scratch is what really made the difference.

Shadowpact revealed that Gotham was built over the place where a particualrly nasty warlock was buried centuries ago, whose warped nature basically conaminated everything around him. The city that grew up around him was just as weird as he was, and when he finally awoke, since he found out that people needed to use names now, picked Doctor Gotham
