This is cool. What's the story behind these "Season One" comics? Is Marvel getting rebooted, or is it just an update of the old backstories for new readers?
Largely updates of the old stories to introduce new readers to the characters. They're like DC's Earth One books, only without the utterly inconsistent scheduling.
Hypothetically I think they are, and it seems like that was the initial view Marvel took with them. Really these books are graphic novel versions of the kind of updates that would get retconned in anyway, so they don't seem to disrupt any later canon.
That said I haven't seen them mentioned much since they came out, so the Season One stuff might just be getting quietly ignored, outside of the original X-Men rocking McKelvie's updated uniform when they came to the present.
The same artist did young avengers and how did Magneto just no sell Jean like that? I know he's got experience with mind readers and she is a newbie but the man didn't even flinch.
By that point in time, Marvel Girl was indeed a newbie - and she was primarily a telekinetic. Her telepathic abilities would really come in full swing with the Phoenix.
Also, Scott points it out rather clearly: Magneto knew all too well where the real danger was. So it was a matter of keeping his best poker face and waving Hank around to keep Jean from thinking clearly.
It's like you're colluding with comic companies to steal my money by making stuff I want to read and then showing it to me!
This site sold me on Demon Knights, Nextwave, Young Avengers, Hawkeye, Atomic Robo, the new Silver Surfer, the Scott Lang FF, Superior Spider-Man, Superior Foes, the idea of Kid Loki as a character, Bill and Kelda*, Runaways... okay, old s_d sold me on Runaways, but it still counts!
*:I still need to find the trades that collect their story. Marvel has yet to oblige with a Bill & Kelda special edition.
It's little disappointing that Marvel never did more with the Season one books, after 2011-2012. I guess they did what they set out to accomplish in updating things, but I wouldn't have minded seeing an Ultimate-style universe built around graphic novel retellings of classic stories.
I'm liking that it's perennial screwball Bobby who hands Magneto his first taste of defeat in this whole thing. Sure, it doesn't last, but Mags has had a leisurely walk over the entire rest of the team when Bobby does his thing up there.
