These are pretty terrible. A few of them like the Batgirl one almost work (get rid of the Batman standing in the background), but they're mostly just mashing two things together and failing to create an end result that fits.

I agree. This is basically on the same level as fanart. For a published work doing X in the style of Y just doesn't hack it, you need MORE, some real connection or celebration of the story being told in the actual comic, not just laffs.

DC's variant cover months have never been well thought out. They're just random themed artworks, really. At least these ones are actually depicting characters involved in the stories they're covers of.

The original album cover has Prince on the bike and a woman (Sorry never seen the movie so no idea who) in the background. If there were nobody there it wouldn't look like the original, and if you're going to put some there, might as well complete the genderflip and throw in Batman

On one hand some of these are cool (although technically I would have preferred a bit more photorealism art if they're going to go with movie poster ripoffs) but it's very revealing on who DC thinks the age range for these titles are - Purple Rain, Free Willy and The Lost Boys? Really? Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz are classics but a load of movies from the early 90s?

Not the movies so much as the posters perhaps, they are all visually striking and unique in their own way.

This isn't the complete range, which can be seen here and which covers a wider timeframe... perhaps I tended to pick ones I was familiar with from my own youth; Purple Rain was 1984, The Lost Boys is 1987, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure is 1989 and os on.

Some of these fall flat, for me but eh they're themed variants as long as someone likes them.

They're fun and cute for a laugh, but again, DC is having all this fun on their covers but the internal stuff is still the same: trying too hard to be '90s Image. Pass.

I like these as well, though it might be worth noting that the theme is specifically Warner Bros. Movie posters (naturally), so that limits available options somewhat as well.
