Some of the fourth wall breaking is a little on the nose when it comes to Hughes and Johnson, given we're all entirely aware Hughes is essentially a cover artist, these days (did he even finish the Manhattan mini for Before Watchmen?) and the only non-cover-art project I'm aware of for Dave Johnson is Red Son, which he didn't complete.
Right. Still. A bit on the nose - I preferred the rest of what I've read of this series more, somehow. Like.. I get it! Tony Daniel is EXTREEEEME 90'S! Becky Cloonan likes punk rock! Charlie Adlard draws zombies because he's the Walking Dead guy!! Just mashing these things these artists are known for in my face.. It's cute to have a bunch of varying takes on Harley, but.. Yeah. I much prefer the series once it got past this issue and the bathtub-suicide controversy.
I love this comic. Really one of the best and upbeat comics to come out from DC. My personal favorite page was either the Bruce Timm, Dwayrn Cooke, or Art Baltazar.
