Tarkin threatens Leia with the destruction of Alderaan if she does not give them the location of the Rebellion's base.

Ben feels the destruction of the planet through the Force, but still instructs Luke on lightsaber combat and the ways of the Force.

They exit Hyperspace where Alderaan used to be, only to find debris and a TIE Fighter headed toward a small moon.
"That's no moon, Mr. Solo. It's a space station."


Ben heads to disable the tractor beam holding them in place alone.
R2-D2 finds the location of the captured Princess and, after convincing Han of a possible reward for rescuing her, they disguise themselves as Storm Troopers and attempt to do so.

(Have I mention that I love Leia? Because I do.)

I am increasingly starting to think that comics is Star Wars' true medium.

I'd also recommend the radio play version... which opens up FX to anything the mind can conceive (it was Douglas Adams who described radio as "next to books, perhaps the ultimate visual medium"

Heck yes. Have you listened to anything by Decoder Ring Theatre? They're a Canadian radio show group from Toronto, and one of their shows(Golden Age pulp superhero serial The Red Panda Adventures) involves frequent use of bioengineered dinosaurs, multiple flying dreadnaughts, and pretty much anything else the mind's eye can perceive.

I love the scale of the Death Star being so wildly off, with the shadow of the Falcon being insanely large against it, but since the movies were just as bad, what with the completely inaccurate diagram in the hologram Mon Mothma shows, I can't hold it against them.

Can anyone else think of an instance in popular fiction where the person being tortured/threatened just flat out lies? Because it really should be a more common trope.

First thing that popped into my head was an episode of Veronica Mars. The "head of security" dangles someone out a window to... it's been a while since I watched, but I think he was trying to get the guy to confess to something, which I think he denied. It was later revealed that the guy was just lying.
