Every crop of X-Kids usually get forgotten, though a few become break-outs and go on to have great adventures. Sunspot and Cannonball, X-23, Armor and Pixie, I guess they're pushing Eva to be this one's break-out, but she so terribly overpowered I just can't see it. I mean she's pushing her way to being Omega.
Then again, I think most of the X's are getting swept under the rug after this Secret Wars crap happens so Marvel can start really pushing the Inhumans at us.
I doubt that's going to happen, mostly because, conspiracy theories aside, the X-Men haven't really been getting any lousy treatment as far as things in the comics have gone. In the last two years they've pushed more solo books, started more spin-off titles, had them co-star in big events with their other big teams, etc.
Add in the fact that the guy running Marvel's comics right now apparently considers them his favourite team, I really doubt they're going to get 'swept under the rug'.
If they're using it for 'group that the Marvel public fears and distrusts, despite being generally fine with superhumans,' then it makes a certain amount of sense.
Honestly I think the X-Men might be in a better position if Marvel stops caring about them. Lower business priority means less editorial edicts, which means more freedom to tell stories.
Imagine if you are an activist, a revolutionary activist that wants change the world for the better. You have hopes and dreams and then some guy pops out of the timestream to tell you that your protege has gone against everything you stand for and the only way to stop him is to kill a child for being the same type of person you are trying to protect.
I GUESS that makes sense. Didn't realise this was a future Rogue.
But still, it sounds completely out of character for Prof. X, or at least it clashes with the dialogue beforehand. One moment: calm, eloquent speech that I can easily hear Patrick Stewart saying. The next: a sound-bite I'd expect out of a teenage girl.
I really liked this issue - and it managed to be surprising. I think we were all expecting Xavier to solve things in the past. It benefits from reading the Annuals about Eva - I'm glad I managed to read that first.
At the end of the previous issue, Scott and Alana were talking with an powerful reality altering mutant whose powers have been activated because Professor X isn't there to keep the mental blocks. The kid has leveled his entire city because his power is taking over his mind. It seemed like Scott was getting through to the kid, although everyone else was angsty about Scott allegedly recruiting the kid to his side.
At the end of the previous just as Magik appears to the kid and Cyclops with the eye thingy Dr. Strange uses to determine his nature, a deadly SHIELD helicarrier appears and kills all 3 of them. At the beginning of this issue Maria Hill is absolutely scared.
The kid then appears to be alive and kills the SHIELD investigating team. Meanwhile Emma has a glorious hissy fit over Scott's death. The kid teleports to the other X-Men at the Jean Grey School and after being punched by Emma, lashes out and accidentally shatters Emma in small pieces.
