Yeah, not a big fan of the hairdo. I'm not sure what the "Mrs. Richards" stuff is about. But then I think shutting down the FF title because of the Fox movie (if rumors are to be believed) and shipping its members to different teams really breaks the concept of what the FF is about (I felt the same whenever they made Ben part of the Avengers or whatever). And I'm not a big fan of Sue keeping secrets like this, if it was Reed (and it has been in the past so its part of HIS character) you know he would get called out on it eventually.
Oddly enough though, I do feel like the Mrs. Richards moniker doesn't come up all that often outside of scenes where the context of her marriage is required. I mean, we're still all calling her Sue Storm, and I think the comics do as well for the most part. Sort of a weird manifestation of comics tendency to try to keep things as recognizable and "classic" as possible, maybe.
"I think the comics do as well for the most part."
If we're talking the Marvel Universe comics, they use Sue Richards much, much more frequently. Almost always, I'd say.
The prominence of Sue Storm as a name probably comes from the fact that there are all those other continuities out there these days, including the upcoming movie that's getting all kinds of controversial buzz lately, and those versions of the character usually aren't married.
Couldn't she have just made his skin/chest invisible layer by layer until she found the bomb and could seal off the power source? That would probably be a lot safer than performing open chest surgery on the guy in a cavern.
It would, but only if Sue or the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents had thought of that from the start. From the looks of things, the original plan was for her to remove the bomb surgically, then when she realized she couldn't do it, she came up with the 'isolate the power source' plan in the heat of the moment.
The impression that I got was that the thought of sealing off the power source didn't occur until after she'd cut him open and was being stretched to her limits.
I was actually thinking a few weeks ago about how Sue Storm is the only member of the Fantastic Four who's never really had an independent existence (Torch had a solo in the 60's, Thing had one in the 80's as well as Marvel Two-in-One, and Reed Richards has been a big player with the Illuminati for the past decade or so) so it's neat to see the idea dealt with.
Having the Invisible Woman be a spy in a crazy dayglo Jm Steranko/Jerry Cornelius world is kind of perfect and it's the first place my mind went, but I'm still not sure how I feel about this as a solution. Marvel's already got quite a few military/spy affiliated female superheroes (Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Spider-Woman) so this is almost a bit redundant, and it really does feel weird to have Sue Storm doing this unbeknownst to the rest of her family when there's really no discernible reason to keep it secret.
It's feels like Sue doesn't really see it as a real secret since she easily suggests bringing in the others. Likely she just sees it as part of her superhero life and something that needs no more mentioning than when Reed is called to give superscience advice.
One of the things I like about Ultimate Sue was that she was a competent scientist in her own right, a molecular biologist and an M.D. I remember a scene where she selectively makes layers of a person's anatomy invisible so she can peer inside them. That version of Sue wouldn't need her hand held through the procedure.
Also, I'm totally hearing Clark Gregg's voice when reading Coulson's lines.
I'm not that familiar with the new SHIELD series-- seeing as Coulson and Fitz/Simmons are there, I assume these are 616-versions of the AoS team? Is Quake on the team, and has she been tweaked to look more like Chloe Bennett?
Skye was put in one of the promotional images back before the reveal in the show, but no, she hasn't appeared or been altered to fit. She is due to appear as Quake in issue 7, going up against Mister Hyde, and I suspect they'll put in some extra backstory for her with Coulson and May there.
Sue having an additional career as a SHIELD agent makes PERFECT sense. An Invisible Woman becoming part of the world's best espionage agency is a natural.
I like this, and I like the hair-do. It's practical for a secret agent. And the Invisible Woman as a secret agent makes all kinds of sense. And I like seeing her use her powers this way.
