May the 4th be with you! Star Wars the Manga

Since Neko was kind enough to share with us what Star Wars might have been, and since not too long ago we saw the early Marvel adaptation, let's see how it gets handled in another country.


*note this is more or less just pages I liked... most of us know the story, I might post from the later volumes, but If I do it'll probably just be to see stuff like Alderaan's destruction*

Also I don't have an accurate page count on this book since Comixology counts two page spreads as a single page, and I will admit I'm too lazy to count those all up... It's over 80 though, so I got lots of room.






















Okay this part I really like... Luke's cut conversation with Biggs works excellently as a flashback in the comic medium (probably would have been hokey in the movie).

Fast forward to when Luke and Ben meet up.

"Years ago you served my Father during the clone wars--"

From time to time, fans wonder why Luke wasn't *more* shocked and horrified over Owen and Beru's death. The novelization of EMPIRE STRIKES BACK had Vader say "I destroyed your family. Take your revenge."


Also, there were a few fan-theories that most people around Tosche Station and Anchorhead thought Luke had been killed with his family.

I think the characterization makes enough sense... He gets two scenes to mope, one after he looses his family, and one after he looses Ben (and whines to the lady who just lost her whole civilization, and is taking it like a champ). But he deals with this by throwing himself into his mission, and Jedi training because he knows he has to complete the mission to make their deaths count for something.

And by Empire he's had time to grieve. Besides we're seeing some of that rage in the new comics.

--I'll have to listen to the audio drama again, and see if there was a similar line, though--

Man, Luke's reaction to the Leia hologram just screams 'I have the weirdest boner...although I'm two movies away from finding out why it's so weird'.

Yeah, thought his facial expressions were hilarious there (also when he first discovers the hologram too)

Luke, and Obi-Wan are recognizable in this style, but Leia just looks *weird*

Really? I like Leia, though I feel she looses some her gavitas.

I think Obi-Wan is the one who looks the weirdest.

It's not a bad design in itself, but it's just... Not Leia. Like at all.

I find her "all innocent" expression in the "diplomatic mission" panel to be very charming. That said, the artist is clearly imitating Takeuchi or Sadamoto in her design.
