The Monica nightmare: it feels cruel for one of Warren Ellis' throwaway jokes to be shown to actually affect the character it was made about. I laughed as much as anyone else at the bucket-in-hell line, but only because it was making a joke about parents telling kids to get a real job.
The Spider-Man nightmare: Ha, yes, "Superior" was very much a stupid story and I will not get tired of better writers pointing it out.
I take that with a pinch of salt given his job will be on the line if he publicly speaks ill of other writers' work. I think only a seasoned pro like Bendis could get away with that.
It wasn't in response to a question, though. Nobody was asking him his thoughts on Superior Spider-Man. It was a spontaneous comment. If he didn't like the storyline, he could have just as easily not brought the subject up at all.
It sounds like you're projecting your own dislike of Superior Spider-Man onto Ewing. There's nothing wrong with not liking a series but Ewing said the exact opposite, there's no reason to think he feels otherwise...
Writers talk about stories they don't like all the time, artist too. Kris Anka talks about how he dislikes the first Civil War all the time and he still has a job at Marvel.
Al Ewing isn't the type to lie about this sorta thing anyway.
I don't even think it's a matter of Ewing throwing shade at Superior Spider-Man, he's simply better at playing with the concept and it's fallout that Slott was. To be frank Dan Slott's stuff was, imo, the least interesting/fun execution of his own concept.
I can't tell if that Cap is just "determined" or "the evil old white guy in a position of power." The problems of an aging face and a lifetime of resolute facial expressions, right, Steve?
It looks more like he's in the midst of compiling a detailed dossier of suspects to narrow down who farted in his office. He is an old man and shouldn't have to deal with this sort of nonsense.
if we weren't so close to secret wars? yeah, it would have been nice. but at this point it's better for them to focus on THEIR cast before adding four more characters to the spotlight. as it is, i think this does a good job re-integrating Nextwave into canon and it opens the door for an actual reunion in case the Beyond corporation returns.
