AVENGERS (vol 3) #12: Vision and Wanda talk some things over before the big Thunderbolts team-up against a giant alien robot (called Dominex.)

Vision mentions where he and Wanda had their honeymoon. Wanda notices not just what the Vision is saying but how he is saying it.

The big fight against Dominex interrupts.
Kurt Busiek wanted to mix Silver Age idealism with 1990s complexity. I think he succeeded.
Will the upcoming CAPTAIN AMERICA and AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR movies cover the Wanda/Vision romance? Tough call, really. The MCU Vision doesn't have Simon Williams' brain patterns and is closer to Adam Warlock in a lot of ways.
But the first scene with Wanda and Vision in CIVIL WAR could be Wanda and Vision at a cafe, with the Vision using a hologram to look remarkably like Paul Bettany. The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Where stuff happens between movies they aren't going to tell you about!

Date: 2015-05-20 04:52 am (UTC)I can only conclude that Feige and Whedon are fans of them as they were in the Silver Age, and thus want to reflect that status quo over...as they are in 616 currently. I mean, most of the MCU treatment of everyone else can be said to have 'evolved' or are quite different, including romantic relationships between characters (Bruce and Natasha over Natasha and Clint, and Clint being a pretty different guy in MCU over his original 616 self).
Vision's really different in MCU, though Wanda has potential to go in the same vein of 'chaotic' as her 616 counterpart (in the same QA, they mention "Scarlet Witch - can take down all of the Avengers, wanted to show just how incredibly powerful she is in AoU"), though with her powers now more akin to Jean Grey, at least she seems to just warp people's perception over actual reality. So it's interesting that both are pretty different, but in MCU, they want to pursue the romance angle again.
I'm happy with that. Really happy. I want them to be happy in some Marvel-verse. Because you know, back to the scan, it would have been fine if they left it as this. If both could move on with their lives.
But between Wanda being abused as a 'plot-bomb' over and over again, Vision flip-flopping between overly cold and overly emotional, and even the reintroduction of their twin sons back into the canon (I love Wiccan and Speed but their existence just brings up even MORE questions than before), it's like an endless cycle of doom and pain.
MCU can finally let them be happy, even if I kinda think Vision's doomed to die because of the Infinity Stone issue, so I can sorta see how Feige and Whedon want to introduce a 'tragic love story' angle. But I'm fine even with this, because at least they would be happy for a time and it won't turn into a cycle of pain like it is in 616.
Edit: Btw, I actually mentioned Marvel's treatment of Wanda and Vision today while in discussion with a class on transhumanism. Never thought my intense knowledge of them from the Silver Age would have an actual applicable purpose academically, whodathunk?
Edit2: Over on Tumblr, I'm having a kick uploading the incredibly cheesy Silver Age panels of them; but even more when I upload scans of their twins or of Wiccan and Speed. Telling Tumblr shippers that their OTP produced legitimate magic babies? Priceless. Come to think of it, Vision and Wanda ARE a crack ship before crack ships were a thing. Mutant, marries robot, has magic babies.

Date: 2015-05-20 05:44 am (UTC)That's standard even beyond the MCU. Mary Jane Watson and John Jameson almost got married in SPIDER-MAN 2, and I don't think they've ever MET in the comics. There's the Iceman/Rogue and the Iceman/Kitty romances in the X-Men movies.
Given how similar Wanda is to Jean Grey power-wise, I should have noted that in my post.

Date: 2015-05-20 06:05 am (UTC)And that's what I mean by how they can just ignore past romantic relationships considering it's an adaptation and especially considering it can be a bit awkward considering Vision's suppose to be a Ridiculously Human Robot. Though I did read in the concept art, Whedon insisted on making Vision more human than he was portrayed in the comics (stuff like giving him actual pupils for example), which I guess is meant to not make the whole thing weird for the mainstream.
Also hopefully MCU!Wanda won't turn into just another plot-bomb, though I think at least she'll serve a better purpose than how she's treated in the comics. Her power display is very Phoenix Force-esque too.

Date: 2015-05-21 01:55 am (UTC)In Rage of Ultron though, post-Secret Wars, he's strangely gone back to a more 'human' approach to life. Much less bitter, nice plus. If it's because of some kind of Secret Wars retcon or something to make him finally get over Wanda, thank cripes.
