Convergence #6

Ok, I'll admit, they didn't hype the New 52 characters as much as I though they would be in this issue.


The Convergence planet starts coming into our universe. The Justice League United and Superman come to check it out, meeting up with other space groups.


(Didn't Kara get along really well with the Red Lanterns? Didn't she help them out even after she left? And isn't Zilius Zox dead?)

Telos has been replaced as master of the world by Deimos, who has a new proposition for the trapped cities: Those who serve him will be spared. Pre-Flashpoint Superman meets up with Earth-2 Dick Grayson to help unite an army against Deimos.



Telos in a previous issue recalled that at some point he was a denizen of this planet, a man with a wife and family. Brainiac stripped him of that and set him up as caretaker of this zoo-like world. That knowledge seemed to shake Telos' resolve. He fled the world allowing Deimos to take over. Dick convinces Telos to redeem himself.





The good guy army arrives only for the bad guy army to arrive, ending the issue.

I seem to recall that she had red shoulders on her costume in COIE. Shame that they aren't here.

They've been so simplified by now that they probably have "the greater good" tattooed on the backs of their eyelids. If this helps save their Gotha-I mean, their world, they'll fight on whatever side is stronger to save it.

And c'mon writers, KC Superman even showed up in JSA pre-reboot. He got along! Those two have been through a lot but are solidly on team good.

True, though on the other hand he didn't appear to be actually conscious in the story itself, whereas this one is just a big bully.

Which at least leaves him something of a blank slate, unlike the other who are very much not.

This one wasn't true. Still kind of meh. More so no Cassandra either when Tim's right there. As for continuity isn't the Deathstroke from the Atom in the villain spread? So... yeah.

'Wasn't true' what? And is the continuity thing connected to Fusion!Batgirl, or is this a different complaint entirely? (Not combative, just y'know, just two honest questions)

Oops. I meant that there's some grand conspiracy for this issue. Maybe others previously, but not here given Steph was colored earlier in the comic. And if it's a fusion Batgirl where's the Cass/Bette attire? :p

There were some great fusion concepts there, if I remember right...

Not only did they not pay attention to Red Lanterns and which ones were killed, in the very next issue they draw Guy Gardner as a Green Lantern.

Wait, why is elderly Green Arrow from (I think) Age of Wonder on the bad guys' side? Dude was a socialist, not a villain. Though Harley, Ivy and Selina are on the good guys' side, so yay!

Hm, is that meant to be the jerky version of Captain Marvel from Distant Fires, aka the post-apocalyptic one where an older Billy Batson murders Wonder Woman for not having sex with him?

Isn't there sort of a "once you're in, you don't get out" sort of thing, with very few exceptions? I remember they pulled Guy back before, but he kind of got sucked back in? She might not want that now.

Usually, but Guy was really concerned about her and tried his damnedest to get her to work out his issues. They even hugged at one point. I'd think she'd be glad to see him at least.

Deimos? Like...a version of the old "Warlord" villain Deimos? Or is the name and the visual similarities just a coincidence?

Is Convergence just a big Travis Morgan/Warlord reboot and we didn't realize it?

Yeah, this Deimos is from Warlord. No idea what the future holds for Travis Morgan and company.

Convergence biggest problem is that the pacing is HORRIBLE. King wastes issues developing plot points that are solved in a few panels (like Brainiac or Telos himself) and most of the time, those resolutions come as very anti-climatic.

For all the buildup Deimos has, he doesn't really lives up to the hype.
