Some people get a bit hyper due to the ionisation in the atmosphere after a thunderstorm, given the amount of EM energy he's dealing with there, I can imagine there's quite a lot of ionisation going on....
Maybe now that Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch were "revealed" to not actually be Magneto's kids, Polaris won't constantly be the forgotten child.
I've had this issue sitting in my ever growing To Read pile for a solid week now, and I just can't summon the interest to read it, because y'know.... Secret Wars tie-in.
I think she's forgotten because her green hair clashed with the whole red costumes/silver-hair thing that Magneto and the twins had.
Also was Polaris' costume always just a green version of Wanda's, cause if so...over-compensating sibling is over-compensating.
You know I think the problem with Polaris is nobody's interested in some color-inverted distaff counterpart to an established character, who happens to be her father. It's like, in any situation that could use her magnetism powers, we could use Magneto instead.
I don't think Polaris is actually forgotten, more just employed in some underwhelming stories. Certainly, in recent years she's been relatively prominent - arguably moreso than Wanda. And I disagree, plenty of people are interested in her - otherwise she wouldn't have been used beyond the 60's, let alone appearing in the recent X-Factor runs. She's a lot more than just some distaff-counterpart, too - plenty of stories have established that, including how she can play off of Magneto.
Her current costume's also a callback to her very first one, I believe, but she's had much more varied ones in the past.
I think Polaris has probably never actually had a good costume.
I dunno if the power redundancy thing can fully explain her lack of prominence. If anything it means that she can show up in places where Magneto wouldn't make sense, and the whole "same power, different philosophies" thing ought to be a decent hook for exploring her and Magneto's relationship.
I suppose it just comes down to her background (up to now) having been even more confusing than that of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, and them being more robust characters. Which brings me back to my main point; now that they're off the table she's by default Magneto's most interesting child, so she might get some more page space.
At this point, I'm treating the SW tie-ins exactly like the Convergence tie-ins. I couldn't care less about either main event book, but some of the tie-ins have been promising. That we know stuff like A-Force will be continuing after SW is telling, too - as is the fact that only some of the books have been cancelled, and they're pretty much the standard ones - Avengers, New Avengers, etc, etc.
I'm in the same place with the various Battleworld/Secret Wars miniseries, and there are actually quite a few that I'm interested in, but the "Last Days of ____" issues bore me. Not only are they shaggy dog stories in which the characters can't save the day, but odds are that all the drama and characterization produced by the situation will be glossed over by Marvel's big shiny relaunch, so these stories won't even matter within the context of their own series.
