Congratulations to the USA! Three days since the SCOTUS made their historic ruling, and you still haven't all be struck down by divine lightning yet! (Clearly you're just not trying hard enough, so you know what they say "Practice! Practice! Practice!!)

And to celebrate, three pages from Jem and the Holograms #4





It's like Romeo and Juliet... except with powerchords and lesbians, and hopefully a lower mortality rate.

When last we left our ill starred pairing, it was all hinging on a text from Kimber )of the Holograms) to Stormer (of The Misfits)

And how did that turn out?

I always get a bit antsy when someone refers to these two as Romeo and Juliet, but the same line addressed the reason, so... >_>

It would be an unexpected twist to have the Misfits and Holograms engage in some all out rumbles, though. >_>

But, yeah...these two are lovely and adorable, and I hope it works out for them before too long. (Maybe that'll be the impetus to introduce the Stingers...Kimber and Stormer force the Misfits to put away the rather one-sided rivalry, so the Stingers are brought in to bedevil both bands?)

I seem to recall one of the Misfits was canonically illiterate.

Roxy. It's listed as her 'greatest secret' in her profile in issue 2.

As kamino_neko mentions, Roxy was shown as illiterate in the episode "Roxy Rumbles", though at the end she's shown as trying to teach herself to read. There, the other Misfits knew Roxy couldn't read, and made fun of her for it (though Stormer didn't, but strangely, never offered to help, or perhaps she did offscreen and Roxy refused out of pride).

In this comic iteration, she seems not to have told the others.

This is sweet. It is also like "There are four lesbians in the DCU and they all dated each other." Kimber and Stormer can be gay without being into each other. Unless I am missing the Shakespearian point.

I'm confused. They are into each other. Big time. So much it's causing them both trouble with their bands. (Not that the Holograms know that Kimber's latest girl is Stormer, but she keeps scheduling their meet-ups when she's supposed to be doing shit (oh, good goddess, Kimber IS Romeo). The Misfits do know, though.)

I think it's more that we introduce two gay characters and instantly they become an item, rather than show them as having other partners and maybe coming together further down the line.

Indeed. Although... if Kimber and Stormer WERE gay but NOT into each other, there wouldn't be much conflict or tension. But this is a bit quick.

The like has happened before. On "Buffy," Willow and Tara got together so fast some fans thought Tara was an "imaginary friend" Willow inadvertently created. (And this was years before Loki suggested the same thing about Billy and Teddy in YOUNG AVENGERS.)

Also, about "There are four lesbians in the DCU and they all dated each other." I can never remember the fourth lesbian. Rene Montoya, Kate Kane, Maggie Sawyer and... Toby Raines? Maybe?

In that particular foursome, I have no idea, but generally speaking in the DCU, there'd be Grace and Thunder in the Outsiders (Though Grace is bi, she mentions she has sex with men, but has relationships with women), Harley and Ivy... kinda...a number of Amazons.

I agree that it all happens quickly, but I think that the rush works from a character standpoint. Kimber is implied to get attached quickly and the only relationships of Stormer's that we've seen are toxic, thus it makes sense she'd be hungry for affection. What will make or break the relationship for me is how it's treated going forward. With the will-they-or-won't-they out of the way, there's plenty of room for the conflicts that would naturally arise not only from the "forbidden love" element of the relationship but from the two of them only knowing each other from social media and a chat over coffee.

There haven't been that many characters introduced so far, and we haven't gotten a big infodump on each of them, so the only reason we even know that Kimber and Stormer are lesbians is because they went on a couple of dates. It's already been established by Sophie Campbell that Blaze is a transwoman, but it hasn't come up in canon.

The art in this series is soooo bright and fun to look at, though ironically I find the story more stressful than the standard superhero fare.
