I have no idea what's happening here, and if I did, any entertainment I might have derived would've been undercut by the fact that I currently loathe the character of Mystique. No matter how much depth and badassery they try to tack on to the character, she's an overused ball of backstabbing murder.
if i got it right. mystique lied to everyone about this being a mission to bring Logan back, but then turns out it REALLY was about bringing Irene back. but THEN it turns out Irene had planned all this so Mystique would bring Logan back thinking she was bringing Irene back all the while lying to everyone they were bringing Logan back.
Yup. That says about everything for me too, really. Plus there's that nice little "Secret Wars" logo smugly sitting in the corner going "hey! none of this really matters since it's all gonna be wept away!"
Her reaction was to be expected considering Mystique as a character, but Destiny's "PSYCH!" feels so great to read because of how loathsome she has been the last few years.
I wonder if any of Destiny's letters/tapes/etc. are found by people she never knew, but still knew those people wound find that letter/tape/etc. And given "timeline fragility," she might not know when or what else would be going on at the time.
"Hello, I'm Irene Adler. No relation, wink wink. I knew you would find this even though we've never met. Now, due to the fragility of the timelines, there are a few things that MIGHT be going on, even though I KNEW you would find this. So, here are some things you MIGHT need to do to save the X-Men and the world. Or kill them and save the world. If *you're* confused, think how *I* feel!"
Reminds me of the notes left by Agnes Nutter in Good Omens, where she'd write `100% accurate prophecies, including stuff relating to people reading stuff that wasn't intended for them (a sealed box she leaves with a law firm that'll still exist in some form in the 1990s for example, included an envelope addressed to a lawyer who opened the box in the 1800s, and another for the lawyer who opened the box after dropping it off with her descendant).
"this is for replacing me for a cliche love triangle between her, Xavier and Magneto!" "Irene? what's wrong?" "Nothing, sweetie, just go back to sleep"
There was some weird thing with her and Charles though, at least from her side; she appeared jealous when he flirted with other girls, mimicked their appearances, acted in ways one wouldn't act around a sibling, at least at their ages (and of course, the insistence on making him see her naked, and being insulted when he's freaked out, as any brother would be in that case).
He saw her as a sister, but she definitely seemed to want more than that. And, at the very least, she had the thing with Hank, so there was at least some love triangle (and that's without throwing in Charles/Erik and Charles/Moira).
Eh, is it really flipping the bird at Fox when they've also aged-up Steve and demoted Thor, AND are bringing Logan back (admittedly, from the Old Man Logan timeline, but still) after this anyway? I find it weird people seem to accuse everything involving the Fox-owned characters going through any change as an attempt at undercutting Fox, when they're doing similar stuff to the MCU-owned properties too.
Man, the 1990s Darkhawk fan in me is so damn stoked to see someone (a) remember the character; and (b) use him properly, if only for a few short panels; and (c) draw him in a reasonable approximation of how he used to look.
That, and Mystique herself being 'clowned' when she realised she was being manipulated into bringing Logan back. She doesn't like that, despite what she's done, she's ultimately overshadowed by and tired of things revolving around Logan even when he's dead, so she eliminates the chance of bringing him back.
I don't understand these books that end with a "hahaha fuck you" to the reader. I was so pissed when I finished this book because it just felt like my time was wasted.
"Then let the world burn!" Mystique snapped as she walked away.
That was when a tiny piece of paper dropped onto her head. Somewhat hesitantly, she reached up to pull it down so that she could read it.
Raven, it read, notably not addressed as 'Dear Raven'. If you are reading this, you have behaved like the petulant child you were when I first met you. I am not hurt, just terribly terribly annoyed. Did you really think I wouldn't realize how you'd react? Happily, I prepared contingencies against that possibility. Okay, against that near certainty, if we're being honest. Consequently, your refusal to resurrect Wolverine will now result in his resurrection. Don't bother trying to figure out how I worked that, you're not nearly smart enough.
God, Marvel just cannot help but completely ruin Mystiques character. And Mr. Soule, as a fan of your work, I'm disappointed in this "conclusion."
-First of all, how the heck was she able to take them ALL out so easily. This is the worst kind of "Mary Sue-ing" a villain that you can possibly do. It's poorly explained and the others have to pick up the idiot ball and run with it in order to make it work.
-It completely craps all over her relationship with Irene, which was genuinely sweet. Not matter what they did to her otherwise, I was at least secure in the fact that she genuinely cared for Irene. Now, nope.
-It just make her look like a petulant five-year old. You'd rather doom the whole world, are you a moron?
At least in the first point, none of them had healing factors (meaning any damage would be critical) and, at least going by the art work, had limited visibility. Shapeshifting is a freaky-useful ability for taking out a group of people who don't want to kill each other when they can only see one-another when they're close up.
No, Doctor Doom and Doctor Voodoo (who's brother was possessing Wanda at the time) reversed the Inversion spell and everyone went back to normal.
Except Inverted Iron Man planned for that to happen, and he didn't want to stop being a supervillain, so he developed some sort of anti-magic shield to prevent it from happening.
Havok and Sabretooth were also shielded, so Tony and Alex stayed evil and Creed stayed a neutered Logan wannabe

With irritation, Irene.
